Resolution #121: Learn Sign Language Well Enough To Accomplish Three Tasks...

Date: 5-1-2014

Due Date: 5-1-2015

Resolution: I figure how can I learn more about the world around me when I don't understand what everyone is saying. Granted there's no way I'll be able to learn every language on the planet, but I can attempt to learn one of the few universal languages.

By this time next year, I hope to be able to do at least these three things.

  1. Be able to sign the alphabet without referring to a chart.

  2. Tell the tale of Everyone Poops (I receive a copy of the guide to sign language version of the book when I was working at Children's Hospital.)

3. Be able to perform this scene from National Lampoons Vacation.

I hope to learn more than just these three tasks, but this is will be my start.

Result #121: I Don't Even Have Finances To Blame For This Failure… Nope… This Failure Is Brought To You By Discouragement That Led To A Lack Of Focus…

Update #1: The Conclusion…

Date: 5-1-2015

At the time decided that I was going to learn Sign Language, I still had high hopes that I would be able to complete all of these resolutions within a year. I was still on a good pace with all of my earlier resolutions and had yet to become overwhelmed by the reality of the deadlines that were to come.

I still had fantasies that somehow either my novel, a screenplay, or this blog would get enough attention to afford me the time and finances to accomplish all of these tasks on time.

Ah, the delusions that come during a manic outbreak in a bipolar's life.

Now that I'm a bit more balanced and rational, I have no regrets for the over-ambitious projects that I set out to achieve. Though I may not finish all of my resolutions within a year, I have no plans of ending The Wicker Breaker any time soon. I now see these failures as material for the future as I continue to find my voice as a blogger.

As I've said before, I'm going by the theory that "It takes ten years to make an overnight success." This is year three, so I have plenty of time to get back to this.
