Operation Achieve Anything: Day Two-Hundred-Thirty-Nine, Dateline 8-27-2018

The best remedy for a short temper is a long walk.
— Jacqueline Schiff

Good morning crickets. Welcome to day number two-hundred-thirty-nine of Operation Achieve Anything. It’s amazing how it feels like the more rest that you get, the more you want to sleep, at least that often seems to be the case with me. I planned to do a lot of work over the weekend since my day job is offering up over time but that plan didn’t last all that long thanks to the fact that my work’s system crashed midday Friday and there was apparently nobody there to fix the problem over the weekend.

On Friday, I was mentally prepared to work all the way up until ten o’clock to fit in the maximum amount of hours allowed only to give up around 5:30 in the PM when it became clear that the efforts to resolve the issue were done for the day. I was a little bummed because I was really hoping to pad my paycheck with the extra work, but then again, I’m always up for taking time off from my non-personal project work.

I think that since I had it in my head throughout the entire day that I was going to work late and hit the hay as soon as I was done that when the work did dry up so early, I couldn’t think of anything other than the fact that I wanted to go to be. I was out cold by 8:00 in the PM with the help of the powerful edible that I mentioned in Saturday’s post.

I then woke up nice and early on Saturday, with plans to fit in some work before my cousin came over to hang out for the night. Again, with the work system being down, I was done with my blogging efforts way before it was even close to being noon, so I started to do a bit of day drinking while waiting for my cousin to arrive. This was kind of a mistake because I ended up having to crash way earlier than I usually do, especially when I have guests. The early slumber led me to get a solid night’s sleep, so I woke with no hangover at all.

Sunday/yesterday was a bit of a repeat where I got my blogging obligations done early only to find that my work’s system had still yet to be fixed. Normally, I’d take advantage of this extra time by stockpiling SNL reviews for the days where I don’t have the time to watch the show but still need to keep up the one review a day average. Right now, I have six-hundred-three days under my belt, leading me to be a bit burnt out on the process, so I’m doing the bare minimum until my enthusiasm returns.

Not that my enthusiasm’s entirely gone, I just forgot to factor in a way to take a legitimate break when I started this multi-year challenge. That’s why I don’t mind the unproductive weekend at all. Yesterday, I spent most of my time in bed watching TV which may sound like run of the mill laziness, but this was the first time that I’ve taken things slow for multiple days in a row, and it actually feels like the rest has given a lot of my body’s aches and pains a chance to heal.

This leads me to question if it’s the healing process that causes me to feel almost more exhausted than days where I wake after getting barely any sleep at all. This kind of plays into yesterday’s assignment that’s part of the Achieve Anything… book’s section on anger management. Since the actual task at hand was to practice walking away when I start to feel my temper begin to boil at the same time I was in this more relaxed state, I didn’t have a chance to test the technique, but I do see how it makes sense.

Today’s assignment is pretty much the same only instead of simply walking away, this book suggests for extra heated moments that I should go on a long walk in order to calm my nerves. The results will also probably be a repeat as well because I just checked in with work and the system is still down. Hopefully, it will stay down so that I can take one more relaxing day off to see if the healing is just in my head or if I actually am seeing the benefits of real rest. We’ll see what happens when I check in with tomorrow’s post. Until then, it’s now time for me to sign off by saying, good day and good luck to you and all of your projects.

Talk to you soon.

Sincerely,

The Wicker Breaker
