Resolution #2: Knit Ponchos for Penguins!!!

Resolution #2: Knit Ponchos for Penguins!!!

Date: 1-2-2014

Due Date: 1-2-2015

Resolution: A friend on Facebook posted this link The Worldwide Campaign To Knit Sweaters For Penguins it an organization looking for people to knit sweaters for penguins affected by an oil spill that took place down in New Zealand.

Some heartless bastard pointed out that the oil spill in question took place a few years ago and that these penguins may no longer be in need of these fancy man-made clothes, but that's not going to stop me. Once I figure out how to knit I'm going to knit one sweater for Doug the Truck Penguin, then determine how many sweaters I can knit to donate to this organization for the next big disaster, because we all know the one thing we like more than burning through oil with our cars is dumping oil into the ocean with our boats!

Resolution #3: Calm Down And back up...

Date: 1-3-2014

Due Date: 1-13-2014

Resolution: I will not beat myself up too bad for losing an entire day’s worth of writing due to working on a strange computer. Well, it's my mom's computer that I have to use because the monitor to my laptop broke the other day (cheap piece of shit).

Good news. I thought I lost a lot more information, luckily I haven't been as productive as I thought I would be while on this visit.

I had genuine fears that I lost a lot more of my work than I actually did.

Back to 112,298 words.

I guess I lost two days because I spent all night tonight trying to figure out how to recover what turned out to only be 1,340 words.

New Year’s Resolution for the rest of the trip; not only save to my thumb-drive but also email a backup to myself when I am done writing for the night.

Resolution #7: Eat From A Bucket For One Month...

Date: 1-7-14

Due Date: 1-7-15

Resolution: This is actually one of the first challenges I thought up to keep myself busy following the conclusion of my Southland Tales reviews. On its own… it's a fun/funny experiment and a cheap way to live for a month but It's only a month’s worth of material that fits in perfectly amongst these various other challenges.

I'm going to buy this bucket of disaster preparedness meals and live off of it until it's all gone. It may be a month it may be a week depending on how much I like what I'm eating. This is not a diet in that I will only eat the recommended amount per meal. If I'm hungry I'm going to eat to see just how efficient this bucket of food really is.

Resolution #8: Let The Internet Determine My New Cos For One Year...

Date: 1-8-2014

Start Date: 2-1-2014

Due Date: 2-1-2015

Resolution: Based on this question I would like to let the internet decide my cause for an entire year based on the suggestion that is the most popular.

Granted I don't have a million dollars and I definitely don't have the power to create this magical bank account but I do have the power to look into a cause that I would otherwise turn a blind eye towards and share my findings to maybe turn others onto the cause.

Resolution #12: Build A Better Mouse Trap, And By Mouse Trap I Mean Can Opener...

Date: 1-12-2014

Due Date: 1-12-2015

Resolution: I was going to do the same type of thing as letting the internet determine my cause and have the internet select an item that they have to replace more often than they should due to planned obsolescence and then do some research to see if it would be possible to create an indestructible version of that item.

When I went to Wikipedia for a more technical description of planned obsolescence this is what I found.

"A common method of planned obsolescence is to use inferior materials that are prone to eventually breaking or otherwise becoming damaged. In the case of wheeled can openers, colluding manufacturers make the can opener's teeth out of relatively soft metal that is prone to deformation (and consequent malfunction due to flattening of the teeth) after using the opener for a while. Some can opener manufacturers make one-wheeled 'butterfly' can openers with a rotating axis piece made of poor-quality plastic that is very prone to breakage. Similarly, some manufacturers of ear protectors and some manufacturers of sunglasses use poor-quality plastic that is prone to embrittlement and breakage."

This year I went through three different designs of can openers so I figured that this must be a sign that the can opener is the item that I need to figure out. Not as any form of a money-making venture but to help find the answer to Chris Rock's question,

"They got metal on the space shuttle that can go around the moon and withstand temperatures up to 20,000 degrees. You mean to tell me you don't think they can make an El Dorado where the fucking bumper don't fall off?"

-I'm starting small. I'll build-up to the El Dorado!

Resolution #13: Watch My Final Viewing Of Southland Tales With All Of You...

Date: 1-13-2014

Due Date: 2-11-2014

Resolution: With less than a month to go until my year-long relationship comes to an end I would like to figure out some way to finish this project off with a bang.

Being that I spent most of my time alone with this movie only to share my findings with the internet I was thinking that maybe I would set a time and a date for Sunday… February 9th… at 6:00 in the pm… where I will fire up the theatrical release of Southland Tales for one last time while sitting at my computer keeping an eye on Twitter to watch this movie with anyone who virtually wants to play along. Notice I avoided the words Live Tweet. I don't plan on making a running commentary being that I've already said almost everything I have to say about the movie. I'm more interested in hearing what you have to say as you watch along.

Resolution #14: Use This Facebook Scheme As An Excuse To Make More Physical Art...

Date: 1-14-2014

Due Date: 1-14-2014

Resolution: I normally hate these copy and paste this message posts, but I want to get back into painting and other art projects other than writing so here goes something!

I, Bunker, promise to send a small work of art for the first ten people who comment on this post and comment something along the lines of "Yes, I want in" or something way more creative than that. A “like” alone is not enough.

You must in turn post this as your status update and make something for the first ten people who comment they want in on your status.

The rules are simple: it has to be your work, made by you and the recipient must receive it by the end of 2014. It can be anything: a drawing, photo, video, a conceptual work of art… or anything in between...

Woo chain mail crafts!

Resolution #15: Drink More Water...

Date: 1-15-2014

Due Date: 1-15-2015

Resolution: It's an oldie but a goodie. I've already started but I need to get back to drinking more water and will drink the traditional 8… 8-ounce glasses of water a day for at least one year.

I used to be real good at drinking water when I worked in copy centers. Between constantly refilling my water bottle, having to go to the bathroom, and smoke breaks I barely worked at all... Wait why do I dread having a day job again?

Resolution #16: Animate Dem Beets!!!

Date: 1-16-2014

Due Date: 1-16-2015

Resolution: About a year ago I had an idea for this song. One night while hanging out with a couple of friends one of them recorded my idea with their phone and created this...

I then stole a video from YouTube and added our collaboration to it.

I recently bought a copy of Animation Studio Debut a simple animation program that I feel, with my limited knowledge of Flash 4 from back in the day, I can figure the program out well enough to give this song a proper music video.

Well, I have a year to see if these feelings are accurate.

Resolution #17: Turn The World Blue With The Reach Of The Wicker Breaker!!!

Date: 1-17-2014

Due Date: 1-17-2015

Resolution: According to Google Analytics this blog has been read in these areas. When I see this map I can help but think about the board game Risk.

Risk is pretty much the only game that I get competitive over. I think it's because since there is more than one path to victory you can hide the fact that you actually are being competitive. In games like Monopoly, with a set path, once you take the lead it's hard not to showboat. When I was a kid, between my sister and my cousins, I was the youngest and these people would scare the shit out of me with how competitive they would get over Monopoly, but with Risk… I could be in my own little world trying to figure out how I could come from behind and win at the last minute avoiding accusations of strong-arming or collusion.

See Risk has nothing to do with this resolution but I get wistfulness just thinking about it.

Anyway… I want to fill in as many of the gaps as I can on this map within the next year.

Resolution #18: Create My Belated Armenian Christmas Secret Santa Gift!!!

Resolution #18: Create My Belated Armenian Christmas Secret Santa Gift!!!

Date: 1-18-2014

Due Date: 1-18-2015

Resolution: I have a real tight group of friends, and every year we celebrate two holidays.

  1. Thanksmas:

    • Being that there are a lot of us that spend Thanksgiving and Christmas either out of town or with our families we have a day where we celebrate with just the friends. This normally takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas and is when we get our Secret Santa victim assigned to us for the gift exchange that takes place during our second celebrated holiday.

  2. Armenian Christmas:

    • This holiday takes place after Christmas and it's when we do out gift exchange. One year January 6th just happened to be the first day everyone was available after the December 25th Christmas. Someone either already knew this or did the research to discover that January 6th happened to be Armenian Christmas. We decided to make that our theme ever since.

This year I got one of my best friends, Adam. He's both hard and easy to shop for. He seems pretty happy with whatever you get him so it's to find that item that he might find special. I'm not saying this is a bad thing but you could give him a bottle of booze, a novelty shirt, or a brand new car, and no matter what he'll show the same level of appreciation (alright he'd be blown away if you gave him a car, but again if he gets something he can at least use once then he seems pretty happy about it.)

This year I'm completely broke for Armenian Christmas. I have enough to get him something lame to just get it over with but I figured since I'm doing this experiment why not make it fun.

So, here's what I'm going to do.

We always joke about a shot for shot remake of Dumb and Dumber replacing Lloyd and Harry with Alien and Predator.

I don't have it figured out quite yet but by next Armenian Christmas… I will create a sculpture, a painting, an animation, something brings these worlds together and present that as a gift.

Hopefully… this isn't considered just an excuse for why I don't have a gift tonight, but now that it's part of this project you can look at it as a gift that keeps on giving.

Merry Armenian Christmas!!!

Resolution #19: Revisit The Infinite Flu Facebook Page...

Date:1-19-2014

Due Date: 1-19-2015

Resolution: Two years ago I produced this short film of a script that I wrote. I cost me the price of a bag of bagels, a variety of cream cheeses, a try of cookies, Capri Sun, and wrap party pizza that only a couple of us were free to partake of.

There's an ongoing theme of me being a broke artist so I was only able to afford to enter this into a couple of festivals that were free to enter being that it was shot in Seattle.

For whatever reason… it was not accepted.

Since then I entered the short to Triggerstreet.com, Kevin Spacey's site that allows you to post your work for review. Free is the only thing that I could afford.

Since I entered the script I have yet to receive a negative review, except for a couple from some real space cadets and I'm not saying that just because they gave it a negative review.

It seemed that every couple of weeks The Infinite Flu would be the featured short of the day and eventually it became the Spotlight Short of the Month January 2013!!!

I started a Facebook page and updated it on a regular basis with the reviews that were coming in. Then as always… that self-doubt kicked in and because I didn't feel that I was getting the proper response for posting these updates I just gave up.

Even at the time… I felt bad for those who were interested in the updates, but don't feel the need to interact, but I fell into a fuck it mentality and just moved on to the next project.

My resolution is to get update all the reviews to the Facebook Fan Page and keep it up to date for a year no matter what anyone thinks!!!
