Resolution #200: Learn The Art Of Speed Reading...

Date: 7-19-2014

Due Date: 7-19-2015

Resolution: I've been reading at least a half-hour a day for the past several months. I always liked the idea of reading but I'm so slow because of my dyslexic head. It seems that I've gotten better at coping with the disorder through my years of writing, but I'm still slow.

Over the next year I will test one speed reading book, one speed reading video, and speed reading software to see if any of these will have a technique to quench my need... my need for speed... for speed when I read.

Alright, I'm just rambling now.

Result #200: I Bought A Book And Software… I Wouldn't Say That I've Perfected The Art Of Speed Reading… But… I'm On The Right Track…

Update #1: The Conclusion…

Date: 7-19-2015

I think I can figure this one out with a little more practice. The biggest thing that I've learned is that you're supposed to see and register the words without internally vocalizing them.

Because of my dyslexia, I've never been good at reading allowed. I read a little faster in my head but I do let my internal voice read the word and get hung up by the same issues. When I focus on the techniques taught in the book I do read faster.

The problem is, at this point in my training I often slip back to my old ways. I also notice that there are times where I get so caught up in the technique my reading comprehension and retention seems to suffer.

I'm not all that concerned though because I know the negative aspects will clear up with practice. I'm just an old dog, and this is a new trick. At this point, it's hard not to revert to old ways, especially when casually reading an article or whatnot, but I do feel I'm far enough along to consider this a success.
