Resolution #260: Buy A Bicycle To Increase My Traveling Radius...

Date: 9-17-2014

Due Date: 9-17-2015

The Resolution: I don't regret selling my truck. I'm kind of digging my entire world existing within walking distance. Unfortunately, there are some places that I would visit that are inconveniently too far away.

I could take the bus but public transportation gives me too much social anxiety.

I could bite the bullet and just walk, but with my crazy schedule, I don't usually have the time.

I figure now that my Walking Alphabet Resolution is coming to a close I will no longer be taking advantage of the long walks to knock off a letter.

Since I no longer need these long walks I'm going to buy a bicycle to widen my world a little bit.

Maybe this is a baby step to get me to break away from my reclusive ways.

Result #260: Now That I'm Back In Sunny San Diego… Walking Gets Me Absolutely Nowhere… Though This Resolution Is Currently A Failure… I’ll Definitely Need Some Form Of Non-Walking Transportation…

Update #1: The Conclusion…

Date: 9-17-2015

During my last year in Seattle, I got by just fine without having a vehicle. I barely even used the bus. Everything I needed was within walking distance. I never had to walk more than a half-hour to get to anything I needed.

Now that I'm living back in San Diego, it's about a fifteen-minute walk just to get out of the neighborhood. There is a dollar store, a couple of liquor stores, and two Mexican restaurants at the end of this fifteen-minute journey, which is enough to get by but it's by no means enough to try to live healthily.

Unlike in Seattle, there is no such thing as a quick trip. Rather than walk a block to buy fruits and vegetables at a real grocery store, I have to walk five times as far just to buy a fruit-flavored Four Loko. Not only do I leave less but I'm buying worse food when I'm out and it's starting to show.

Since I was able to get by without a bike in Seattle it didn't bother me that I was putting it off, but I've been wanting a bike here ever since I arrived. Unfortunately, I haven't had the finances and since I have been working from home it's been easy to put it off.

I've finally landed a part-time job that I was hoping would pay me before this deadline to buy a bike was due, but the place pays once a month so I have to wait. I'm getting to the point of feeling fed up with such limited options and feeling like crap from the lack of exercise that I am definitely going to fulfill this resolution the moment I get money.

I will keep you posted on what I get.
