I am loving my current set of courses. Though I have built apps in the past that use information from other sites to populate content within the app, this was during the time where I was taking "follow the leader" courses where I simply typed the same code along with the instructor as he attempted to explain what he was doing without going much into the whys.

Again, I am very happy that I took these "follow the leader" courses before taking this course that is geared more toward working in the industry because that way, I came into this understanding the types of things that can be done so now I can focus on the hows and whys without getting lost in the basics.

Last night I finished the first of three lessons that I need to complete before moving to my next assignment. In this lesson, I started to build an earthquake summary app that takes information from the government's earthquake tracking service and places said info into my app based on my design.

This is so awesome to me because a lot of the apps I've been in the past have been static with placeholder notes explaining that the internet would populate this information if the app was fully functional. This happens a lot so knowing how to make it actually work is going to be a powerful tool going forward.

My assignment at the end of this section is to build a book inventory app, which I may attempt to turn into a functional Amazon affiliate store. Even if this idea were to never make a dime, it would be nice to have a fully functioning app out on the market so I can have a sample to share on freelance sites in order to hopefully start landing paid gigs.

At least that's the idea.

Until then, it's time to get to work on lesson 2.

Talk to you tomorrow,
