Operation Achieve Anything: Day Sixteen, Dateline 1-16-2018

In real life, I assure you, there is no such thing as algebra.
— Fran Lebowitz

Hello Crickets and welcome to another day of operation achieve anything. This is my second stab at this post thanks to a technical glitch that whipped out my entire first draft. Please keep this in mind if this new post feels less inspired than usual since I’m now writing with a rather annoyed frame of mind. Then again, I did take a walk and feel myself calming now that things are stable once again.

(I think I messed things up by opening and closing a computer game to get a reference for this post which led to the Blue Screen of Death, which I would have sworn was a problem from the past that we no longer had to deal with.)

Alright, so here we go with the actual post where I will share my update/revelation for my latest assignments from the Achieve Anything… book. By this I mean, I will share what I managed for yesterday’s assignment, then move on to reveal today’s like usual even though the term revelation might sound much more grandiose or biblical.

I think that joke worked way better in my first draft but it is what it is, and it’s time to move on to share the results of yesterday’s assignment where I was asked to try something new in an attempt to find a new interest. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, this simple task is a bit more difficult for me than one might think. First, I’m too broke to try anything new that’s not free; then there’s the fact that I sampled so many new things during my 365 Days of Resolution challenge that it’s hard to think of anything that’s both interesting and original while, at the time, being affordable.

My solution might be a bit of a cheat, but I’d prefer to consider it a workaround. You see, back during my resolution challenge I set out to learn how to play a string instrument only to try and fail. At the time, I bought a guitar and a piece of software/game called Rocksmith that’s like Guitar Heroes only you use a real guitar.

Though I made it through a couple of the training lesson, I never got past the point of playing more than the first couple of chords. I just couldn’t figure out how to finger the frets in order to keep up with the songs. Since then, I bought a bass, thinking it might be a more natural first step since there are only four chords to keep my eyes on with more space for my fat fingered picking.

In full disclosure, I have tinkered with this bass through Rocksmith but haven’t spent any real time attempting to learn how to play it at all. I think that might be due to the fact that I never had an end goal other than learning to play in general. So, to make this goal “something new” in order to fulfill this assignment, my new plan is to use this as an excuse to commit to learning the song We Are the Champions by Queen and be able to play it to celebrate the end of the Operation Achieve Anything challenge.

As for today’s assignment, it’s another tough one, not in that it’s hard to accomplish but because it’s something that I’ve already done. For today’s task is to become a detective and take inventory of other tasks related to my primary interest that may provide a secret backdoor to success. Again, this was one of the main idea behind 365 Days of Resolution, so be prepared when tomorrow’s update is more of a repackaging of what’s already been done.

With that, it’s now time to wrap things up in order to move on to my next task of the day. As always, I’ll talk to you tomorrow when I check in with another one of my updates. Until then, it’s that time where I say, good day and good luck to you and all of your projects.

Talk to you soon.

Sincerely,

The Wicker Breaker
