Operation Achieve Anything: Day Seventy, Dateline 3-11-2018

Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful.
— Samuel Johnson

Hey Crickets. Welcome to day number seventy of Operation Achieve Anything. It’s a Sunday so that also means that I’m officially wrapping up week number ten of this process and don’t feel one step closer to achieving the goal that inspired this challenge in the first place. Since the current theme of the Achieve Anything… book is honesty, if I’m being honest, I would probably give up on this book if I wasn’t using the challenge to provide content for this blog.

Again, my biggest issue is, when I went into this challenge, I was expecting this book to focus on actual steps to achieve goals and not just a bunch of basic self-help techniques to get you in the right head-space to succeed. As I said before, I can see the value of this advice but, having turned to self-help books in the past, the concepts are all the same which is why I was hoping this book would focus on the actual goals instead of so much focus on self.

I know, others will argue that building up the self is like creating a solid foundation to then build upon but my point is, I've already read the blueprints on how to build the foundation, I want to move on to the next phase and actually get to work. I mean, yesterday’s assignment was to tape the below list to my mirror to look at daily as a reminder to live life with integrity.

  1. Have the courage to say no.
  2. Have the courage to face the truth.
  3. Do the right thing because it is right.

That’s great if my goal were to be a better person but that’s a whole nother book. It almost feels like I bought a book claiming to teach me how to be an artist in one year then two and a half months in I’m still reading about how to prepare to starve as an artist while only being tasked to draw a line and a dot. I kept thinking that this was just a slow roll-out of the good stuff since you don’t want to start in the deep end but now I’m starting to fear that this is how it’s going to be from here on out.

Today’s assignment is a real one where I have to research three historical figures who were known for using knowledge and integrity together in order to do good. Yeah, I’m excited that this assignment actually has direction with something specific for me to do but at the same time, this also feels like busy work that won’t get me anywhere closer to my goals. Even if it turns out that I’m supposed to use what I learn to inspire me to follow in their footsteps, it’s another generic task that seems more geared toward self-help in general.

We’ll see which three historical folks I end up highlighting when I check in with tomorrow’s update. Until then, it’s time to wrap this up with my usual sign off and say, good day and good luck to you and all of your projects.

Talk to you soon.

Sincerely,

The Wicker Breaker
