Operation Achieve Anything: Day Two-Hundred-Two, Dateline 7-21-2018

Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton asked why.
— Bernard Baruch

Good morning crickets. Welcome to day number two-hundred-two of Operation Achieve Anything. I can’t believe it’s already Saturday again. That’s one of the things that sucks about having a consistent day job with a Monday thru Friday schedule. Sure, it’s nice to have the consistency and steady pay, but I really hate knowing precisely what day it is while also favoring one day over another. This creates that working for the weekend trope where life is split up to five days devoted to the employer and only two devoted to play.

Sure, you may say that I only work part-time, but as long as I have a task that’s not mine of my schedule, I can’t help but keep it on my mind until I’m done. Even when I’m working on my personal projects, if there is paid work to be done, my mind keeps coming back to the thought of just wanting the employment part of my day to be over, kind of like how my tongue will not leave a chipped tooth alone until it’s smoothed out.

This is why I’ve never felt cut out for a normal nine-to-five living. I think this might be why I find so many of these assignments to be so silly because it seems like it’s aimed at uncreative types who need to be inspired. Like, for today’s assignment, the Achieve Anything… book points out that questions are often more important than answers, highlighting how questions lead to exploration while answers only nail things down, keeping in mind that in this case the answers have been verified.

I’m pretty sure that my constant questioning of how things work is what inspired me to write, so this lesson seemed rather obvious to me. I’m also pretty sure that this stems from the fact that I was raised with zero guidance and had to figure out everything on my own. Either way, I’ve always found the benefit of questioning everything… well… except for the fact that when you question popular opinions, people act like you are wasting your time and then go on to point out a famous questioner from the past claiming that they already solved the problem. I struggle to see how these geniuses can’t see how they’re actually discouraging the practice they claim to love from the past.

Before I move on, let me first share a behind the scenes note that most of the time I don’t read the assignment for the current day until I’ve already written out my results for the prior day’s task. I just point this out because I found it interesting how I just got done saying that I feel slightly ahead of the game when it comes to this book because I’m a creative type without a business focus, only to answer yesterday’s assignment in a way that pretty much was the lesson for today.

Today, the book shared that we should not worry about what others think because they also believed that the great minds from the past were off because they were going against the gain at the time, just like the geniuses that love to proclaim, “SCIENCE,” yet only trust what’s already been proven. The actual task for today is to come up with something new to learn and go for it.

I’m not sure if I will just watch some new documentary or maybe sign up for some cheap online class, but this one should be pretty fun. Of course, you’ll have to wait for tomorrow’s update to see what I have to come up with. Until then, it’s now time to wrap this thing up as usual by saying, good day and good luck to you and all of your projects.

Talk to you soon.

Sincerely,

The Wicker Breaker
