365 Days Of Marketing And Me: Day Seventy-Six - 3/17/2021

One Creative Introvert’s Effort To Take On The Extroverted Marketing World…

Welcome to day number seventy-six of 365 Days Of Marketing And Me… where yesterday… I had to ask for my first refund of the 200 plus online courses that I’ve taken over the years… the thing that sucks is that it wasn’t the content that made me quit… or anything to do with the instructor’s knowledge… no… I had to stop taking the Squarespace Box Of Tricks course that I started yesterday over the instructor’s use of chalk…

Say No To Chalk

I don’t know if using chalk is the instructor’s equivalent to screenwriters who have their writer characters use a typewriter to romanticize their own writing fantasies… but… it needs to be stopped… mainly for the sake of those online students like me who use headphones… every single stroke of the chalk feel like it’s scraping the inside of their brain… making it impossible to learn because you’re too busy trying to avoid going insane for the sake of knowledge…

Canceling this course freed up a few hours of my time so… I decided to keep up the learning theme… and head back to my queue of SEO courses that I started two weeks ago… I found that I had three courses at an hour-long each… according to their estimated time… so… I figured why not have these classes replace the four hours I would have spent if I would have been able to handle the constant chalk sounds…

The first course was a fun one from India… that had a lot of MTV-style quick-cuts with all sorts of graphics and sound effects… the lessons also felt like information bytes that you would expect to see either before or after a commercial break for a kids show on the topic… I chose this Content Marketing course… because up until now… I’ve only been focused on SEO… but found there was still a lot of crossover information… it was a fun class though…

Next… I took the course Write What Ranks… because again… up to this point… my main focus has been SEO marketing only… and even then… I’ve been mainly focused on fixing old mistakes without really learning how to write content that’s ready to be considered the final draft… also again… a lot of this information has already been covered in through other courses… but this class was a great quick introduction… or refresher… if you don’t have time for a full Bootcamp on the subject…

Finally… I took a course that just focused on On-Page SEO Methods… to prepare myself for the next big phase of this challenge where I will go through each and every page that makes up this site to use an On-Page SEO tool to no longer have the fact that this page was just a hobby to be my excuse to why it’s not my career… or at least the replacement of a need for a part-time gig…

Today I plan to get back to work adding the needed metadata to all of the posts from 2015’s The Daily Breaker section of this website… it should take me a week based on how long it took to get through 2014…but hopefully… having learned from last time… I won’t zone out too much… leaving me with not much to say in these marketing segments of these daily posts… but only time will tell…

Until then… I’m going to consider today’s marketing effort to be done… now let’s see how I handled the task from yesterday…

According to the 365 Days Of Marketing book… yesterday was Consumer Rights Day… this got me thinking of this TV show that I used to love as a kid… I thought it was actually called Consumer Reports… but… after looking into it further… for today’s task… I learned that the show was actually called Fight Back with David Horowitz

I remember it being a fun show that tested the claims made by TV commercials… they were the ones who tested Crazy Glue’s claim that their glue can hold a construction worker to an iron beam if you glued them to it using their helmet…

In honor of Consumer Rights Day… I went down a rabbit hole watching old clips of this show… the two other segments that really stood out to me was when they tested the Timex claim that their watches take a licking and keep on ticking… where they strapped the watch to a hockey puck and slapped it around… and then taped it to a sumo’s stomach before a fight… and there was one where the tested Orval Redenbacher’s claim that all of their popcorn kernels pop… unlike their competition…

I really miss this show and reference it a lot… so it was fun to have an excuse to go back and watch a few clips… who knows… I’ll probably end up watching a few more segments as soon as I’m done with this post…

But for now… I’m done with the task from yesterday… now it is time to see what the book has in store for today…

The 365 Days Of Marketing book says that today is Incredible Kid Day…and though I don’t have a kid of my own… I do babysit my nephew on the regular… meaning… unless I come up with some fictional incredible kid… I’ll probably share why I think he’s a good kid… even though his parents seem to think he’s a stinker…. but… that will have to wait for tomorrow post… which I already can’t wait to share…

And now… to wrap it all up… below are my statistics for the last seven days… now complete with speed stats…
