Area 52 - Southland Tales Reviews: 17 of 52... I See Balls...

More Southland Tales Marketing Material…

Last week after my near-death experience that turned out to be nothing more than a waking Furby, I must have had the flashing balls from the movie Southland Tales in my mind. I was extra hung up on their significance and thought that I saw them in a couple scenes that I’ve never noticed them in before.

So this week I’ll be on a ball hunt at 1:30 in the am on Tuesday… June 11th as I fire up the Theatrical release Southland Tales for the 17th time!

Ball #1 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

 (Ball 1)

0:04:41 this may be reaching here, but the very first one may appear on the map of California. The only reason I chose to add it was because it’s not there when the map originally shows up on the screen. The bright spot just to the left of LA appears then blinks a few times before they cut away. I believe it’s pointing out where the main power station for the Fluid Karma is.

Ball #2 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 2)

0:07:56, this glowing ball shows up for the first time. This is another one where I’m not sure if it counts. My theory for it counting is based on my theory that these glowing balls are a beacon of sorts, and this beacon is the biggest and the brightest because it is found in the USIdent main office, marking this as the home of negative powers of this world.

Ball #3 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 3)

0:08:33 this is the first official glowing ball that I’ve found. The only thing I can think of is that these balls aren’t always the same color. This time it’s green maybe because it’s next to the flower and has something to do with nature or if this has something to do with the Rock’s level of safety.

Ball #4 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 4)

0:15:11 a better look at the Nana Mae ball.

Ball #5 and Ball #6 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

 (Balls 5 and 6)

0:18:16 they’re not glowing balls, but there are two tennis balls stuck to the ceiling of the ice cream truck. I bet many people hit their heads on whatever they are hanging from before someone decided to make it safe.

Ball #7 and Ball #8 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Balls 7 and 8)

0:18:24 apparently there are four balls up on that ceiling.

Balls #9 thru #12 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Balls 9 thru 12)

0:18:50 four more tennis balls on the back of the ice cream truck as well.

Ball #13 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 13)

0:59:41 is that another tennis ball, or is that a pear? I was going to say, this is after all the scenes where Seann William Scott notices that his hand glows, but then I realized that wouldn’t have anything to do with whether or not that’s a tennis ball.

Balls #14 thru #17 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

 (Balls 14 thru 17)

1:01:45 back to the beacon theory; these four lights around the fountain may or may not count as glowing balls, leading to the house of the untrustworthy politicians if they are beacons.

Ball #18 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 18)

1:10:06 this is another one of the balls that I’m officially on the hunter for. This time it’s blue and now can only think of it as a mood ring of sorts.

Ball #19 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 19)

1:11:07 this is yet another “not sure if it counts” glowing ball, but it’s in the back of the room of one of the bad guys of the story working as another beacon maybe?

SIDEBAR: I’m at the scene where Justin Timberlake describes the effects of the different colors of Fluid Karma. Green you dream. Blue in an hour you feel new. Red is the talk to God color. Being that these are the three colors of the official balls that I am looking for, I think that’s the connection, I’ll just have to think more about what it means.

Ball #20+ from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Balls 20+)

1:44:18 there are glowing balls all over this mega zeppelin. These are all the white glowing orbs that I think are the beacons for areas with negative energy.

Ball #30 something from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 30 something)

1:48:09 this is the last of the balls that I had in mind for this ball hunt. As I pointed out earlier, it’s is indeed a red ball. This ball is above where the Rock finds the hidden gun, and this is the reason that I thought that these things must be working as beacons to lead the Rock through the movie.

Ball #30 something + 1 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 30 something +1)

1:52:03 this is where we see the giant glowing ball that they put monkeys into for time travel experiments.

Ball #30 something + 2 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 30 something +2)

1:59:25 Yay, I found a new one located in the ice cream truck and it’s a red ball!

Ball #30 something + 3 from the cult-classic movie… Southland Tales…

(Ball 30 something +3)

2:12:11 this is just a sphere light, not sure if there is any significance at all.

Conclusion:  At that concludes my Southland Tales hunt for balls. I'm not sure if I gained any insight but I have a couple theories.

Theory 1:  The white glowing orbs show up in areas run by the USIdent and are beacons for areas with negative energy.

Theory 2:  The green, blue, and red balls that started this hunt are turning points in the story that follow the logic of the color Fluid Karma drugs.

Green equals dream. When we see the green ball it when we first see the Rock in the nice house, dating the porn star, developing his script. He is living the dream at this point.

Blue, in n hour you feel new. When we see the blue ball, the Rock has regained his memory and reunited with his wife and in-laws. He's a new man at this point combining the Rock that was created during the explosion, with memories from the old Rock who died in the explosion.

Red, you talk to God. The red ball shows up twice, one where the Rock finds the gun, and one in the ice cream truck. These two red balls appear as momentum builds to the end of the world where everyone will meet their maker.

That's what I have for this week’s review.

See you next time!
