Resolution #113: Experiment With This Disgusting Ear Vacuum...
/Date: 4-23-2014
Due Date: 4-23-2015
Resolution: It's infomercials like these that make me thankful that I exclusively get my entertainment via the internet these days. A while back, I had access to cable television for over a month, and this spot seemed to run every other break. It made me want to burn my eye out...
Okay maybe it didn’t lead to that extreme of a reaction but it's still gross.
I have a thing for ears. I think they can be cute. One thing that overrides this cuteness is my visceral response to commercials that depict the inner workings of the human body. Whether the jaw is cut in half to see the latest in toothbrush technology, the body is skinless to follow the digestive tract followed by an antacid, or a toenail is pulled up to see how fungus works, the cringe factor in all these cases is pretty high in my book.
This commercial has an animation showing eardrum damage with a Q-tip that makes my skin crawl. This animation is followed by another animation showing the pleasurable results of using the ear vacuum instead. This animation is just as bad.
Well, apparently marketing does eventually work because as I was searching for today's resolution/experiment the Ear Vac stood out as a must.
Result #113: I Should Have Tried This A Couple Of Months Ago… Back When I Had A Bad Case Of Swimmer’s Ear… But… Instead… I Failed…
Update #1: The Conclusion…
Date: 4-23-2015
I don't really have a good excuse for failing this resolution. They sold the Ear Vac at my work so… not only did I have easy access to buy one… I also would have gotten an employee discount. It even went on clearance for super cheap right before I left. I guess I just had other things on my mind at the time.
A couple of months ago, after a cold, I had congestion that spread to my inner ear. I thought of giving the Ear Vac a shot to clear it up but two things held me back. One, it was no longer available to me at such a cheap price, and two, being that it was inner ear congestion I didn't think this outer ear vacuum would help all that much.
Instead, I rode it out for close to a month trying multiple home remedies until finally, my sister gave me a mix of essential oils. I'm not one to believe in magical elixirs but as you can see I am one to give anything a shot. As a skeptic, you can say it was a coincidence being that one month is enough time for the issue to clear up on its own, but for me, it went from the worst it was to completely cleared-up within two days of using the oils.
It's interesting how even though I didn't end up experimenting with the Ear Vac, I did end up experimenting with multiple solutions to ear ailments.
