Resolution #189: Learn Ten New Yo-Yo Tricks To Add To My Repertoire...
/Date: 7-8-2014
Due Date: 7-8-2015
Resolution: For some reason when I look back at my childhood I often think that I was pretty good with a Yo-Yo. The more I think about it the more I realize, I barely knew how to do anything, and what I did know was pretty basic.
I could "Walk the Dog," do "Around the World," create a "Cradle" and improvise a couple of other tricks that lead me to believe I was a tiny Tommy Smothers.
Though I wasn't the expert I thought I was, I did have a lot of fun flinging this novelty toy around the room only to have it come back.
On the rare occasions that I've gotten my hands on a Yo-Yo as an adult, I've found that I can still pull off those few tricks.
Well after nearly three decades since learning any new Yo-Yo tricks I figure it's finally time to add a few more tricks to add to my repertoire and maybe become the Yo-Yo man of my young delusional mind.
Result #189: I Accidentally Bought A Yo-Yo So Fancy… I Failed To Learn The Trick To Get It To STOP Walking… The Stupid Thing Never Would Come Back Up…
Update #1: The Conclusion…
Date: 7-8-2015
I bought a Yo-Yo a couple of months ago in hopes that I would accomplish this resolution on time. It's been years since I've owned a Yo-Yo so I wasn't sure what to look for, I just knew that I wanted a butterfly because that style seems to make certain tricks a bit easier to pull off.
The Yo-Yo arrived and I was kind of disappointed to find that the string was not attached. It wasn't that hard to figure out how to sting the Yo-Yo but I had a hard time getting it to catch. I finally used an old trick I remembered from back in the day and got the Yo-Yo wound. Then I went to throw it and it did nothing but walk.
I tried and tried to get it to come back up but it just bounced at the bottom. I went to the internet to see what I was doing wrong and saw a video on how to get a Yo-Yo to bind. It worked but I had to use this trick every time, which was very frustrating.
I don't know if this is a special design specifically for tricks, but it doesn't work for what I want to do. I just want a simple Yo-Yo that goes up and down that walks when you want it to and returns with the flick of your wrist. I'm not going to do a trick every time I want the Yo-Yo to return.
So, it looks like I will have to buy a new Yo-Yo and let you know when I figure out my new trick.
