Dateline 10-4-2016

Last night I accidentally stumbled on to the Julian Assange letdown on the YouTube. Though I was disappointed by the lack of information, I was still a little entertained.

First off, I didn't fall for anything. I've seen some places that people were complaining that they stayed up that late just to see a book promotion and more subtle hints to upcoming leaks. No, I was up that late anyway and while I was looking for more covers of Pen Pineapple Apple Pen, I stumbled on the announcement of the live feed that was coming up in a half hour.

Since I knew nothing about this event I decided to look into it and my interest was piqued so I decided to stick around as kind of a relapse back into doom and gloom entertainment. As I waited, I felt anxiety growing within me feeling kind of excited that I might be awake to witness what in my half hour of research was being built up to be the biggest news of this election cycle. This was an exhilarating anxiety like watching a thriller movie, which is why I have to put an extra effort into avoiding doom and gloom.

At one point I realized just how much I was seeing this as entertainment the tiny stage reminded me of videos that I've seen from the UCB Comedy Club and the strongly accented lady reminded me of an improv character as she stammered through her introduction. This was playing on my TV as I found a bobble head video of Hillary Clinton on my computer, where they zoomed in and focused on her literally nodding yes for seven minutes straight as she sat behind Bernie Sanders at some campaigning event.

The fact that all of this happened out of the blue felt so surreal to me that I couldn't resist heading over to Twitter where I shared:

With all the wackiness in the world these days I can't help but buy into the idea that we are living in a simulation of reality and we're at a point where the genre of the game is evolving to be more dark, satirical and surreal and it's a clumsy evolution at that.

It took almost an hour to go from discovering this event to building it up to the biggest event of the year, to end up feeling let down. Then it took one minute to get over it because I wasn't all that invested from the get go. I didn't even stop what I was doing so this was nothing more than background noise, to begin with.

I did find it funny that there were a lot of people instantly commenting about how dumb people must feel for staying awake and falling for this troll, without realizing that they too were up watching so they actually fell for it as well.

This is why the whole my side vs your side argument holds no weight with me because both sides are blind to their own hypocrisies.

Oh well, I didn't mean to bring up politics again but it's what I ended up doing last night and it's all I have to report. We'll see what happens tonight?

Talk to you tomorrow,
