/More of the same on a Sunday afternoon.
Yesterday was pretty uneventful but then again that could be said about my life for the past two years yet somehow I've managed to come up things to write about. I often forget that my mission statement for this site, from the get go, has been "I'm here to muse on the world around me in an attempt to make it appear as if I leave my apartment to make such findings." So I guess this segment of my site is far more successful than I give it credit.
Last night I managed to marathon watch the Cycle 1 of America's Next Top Model while I worked on my Android App assignment. Since I'm all caught up on my podcast and am still on a fast from the doom and gloom documentaries that I used to play in the background as I work, I'm now filling the void with reality television.
I actually have a legitimate reason I like having reality shows play in the background instead of scripted shows that I might be more interested in. A couple years ago I marathon watched the entire run of Breaking Bad while I was writing my novel. The show seemed interesting but to be honest, I couldn't tell you one thing that happened in that show because it was just background noise. Now, even though I'm still interested in the idea of the show, I have no real interest in sitting through it again because it would be rewatching something that I'd never really seen before.
With reality shows, there is enough of a narrative to keep me interested and entertained as my mind wanders from my work. These storylines are simple/frivolous enough that I can follow along without much effort. Keep in mind I only watch competition reality shows because I like watching people following their passions as I chase my own dreams.
I chose Top Model because it is one of the three or four reality shows available on Amazon Prime. I may have to sign back up to NetFlix or Hulu to broaden my scope of shows. I don't really have much to say about the show, but I do find that this reality replacement of the doom and gloom has me in much better mood.
Don't get me wrong, I credit the cutting out of doom and gloom way more than I do the replacement content. When I first started to actively avoid negative entertainment my first fascination were YouTube video game playthroughs and reviews.
Even though I am not a gamer this was real fun at first but I've now watched every channel I found interesting more than once. Since I got to the point where I was struggling to find something I hadn't already seen, the doom and gloom docs started to slip back into the rotation, so I'm now happy to find a resource that should keep me busy for quite a while.
Now it's time to find a new show and get to work.
Talk to you tomorrow,
