/Last night ended with a bit of a fun surprise. First off, yesterday was a successful day as far as writing goes but other than that everything else was the same. Though I don't really care about the numbers, I do like to check on this site's traffic from time to time. I checked a couple times throughout the day and everything seemed average on that from as well.
Then towards the end of the day, when I was getting too tired to work with my words, I decided to check the end of the day stats to find a huge spike where the traffic damn near tripled in one hour. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking crazy numbers when looking at the big picture but for this little site it was a pretty busy day.
Seeing such a jump in number was jarring and my first feeling was fear, thinking that I had to have done something wrong. Since I could imagine any of my most recent posts I figured I must have written a post in the past that someone stumbled upon that goes against what's currently considered acceptable and this was just the start of some sort of Twitter rage that seems a little too easy to trigger these days.
Keep in mind, this fear that I'm talking about was just a quick passing thought when all I saw was the numbers. Another passing thought struck when I looked deeper into the statistics to see which page was getting all of this attention. I discovered that one of my early SNL reviews of an episode with Buck Henry as host was why people were checking in. This led to said second passing thought as my second fear was that Buck Henry was dead which led to even more investigating.
After a quick search of Buck Henry in the news, I found an article that NBC was re-airing the episode in question because it was the late Tom Petty's first appearance on the show as the musical guest. Though a bit anticlimactic, this explanation makes sense and I hope that some of these new visitors stick around.
So that was my exciting end of the day experience. We'll see what it leads to today and as always, I'll check in tomorrow whether or not anything interesting comes of it.
Talk to you then.
Sincerely,
The Wicker Breaker
