/If I could make a living doing what I what I did yesterday, I would be a very happy man. First, I woke up early but not too early, I actually felt like getting out of bed over just giving up on the idea of getting more sleep and opting to start the day.
As always, I went to my fridge to whip up a quick breakfast before heading over to my computer to start my day. Once there, I check everything on my phone and computer that has an alert icon warning me that I have to take some sort of action. I never get anything meaningful in my email anymore but I still have to clear out all the unread message because I can't stand alert icons.
Next, I posted my SNL review that I wrote the night before, then went on to write my Daily Breaker post. Once that was done I wrote my SNL review based on the episode I watched and took noted for the night before. So, to live out this fantasy world, I would have to figure out how to make a couple bucks doing tasks like this.
I got all of my writing done by noon. After that, I took a walk to get in my fitness for the day and also to get some drawing supplies from the store up the street. When I got home I had some "admin" stuff that I had to take care of (i.e. a quick job hunt, returning a phone call, working a couple task jobs to get what little pay I do receive, you know, things that I wouldn't have to do if I had income stream doing my own thing.)
After the "admin" stuff was done and all my blog stuff was out of the way, I finally started the digital drawing class that I signed up for and would take bass lessons through Rocksmith to give me a little break between drawing lessons.
First off, I forget how much I love to draw even though I'm not all that good at it but that's the whole reason I am taking the lesson. Class or no class, I need to take at least a half hour a day to draw something. I think it would be a much better way to take a break than playing a round of my favorite dart through monkey maze game.
Next, I fell in love with playing bass after about two minutes of trying it out with the aid of Rocksmith. If you don't know, Rocksmith is a computer game like Rock Band or Guitar Hero only it teaches you to play with real instruments. I bought the software back when I resolved to learn to play the guitar but failed to accomplish my mission.
The problem with trying to learn the guitar was that I have never once gotten a stringed instrument to make more of a noise than pure chaos. As an old dog, there were just too many strings to figure out the figure positions so I never learned my new trick. With the bass, however, having only four spaced out strings to focus on is allowing me to learn much smoother.
Sure, I'm still nowhere near being able to play a full song but I'm flying through the lessons far faster than I was with the guitar and more importantly I'm doing so without all that my frustration. As I was saying yesterday, with the arrival of said bass, I love the idea of having this as a hobby because at this point I have zero fantasies of making this a money making venture.
Even though I'm not getting paid for any of my other hobbies and would be perfectly fine to continue living this way, there is still the dream that one of these skills will finance a life where I can do this without starving. This creates kind of a love/hate relationship to where I love what I do but I hate the concessions I must give in to in order to make my work more marketable.
That's why I love having an outlet for fun that has nothing to do with striving to make money. I swear I felt a crazy chill run up my spine the second I found I was flawlessly able to keep up with the first lesson. The potential I look forward to most is that once I finish the learning portion of the software, there are also gaming features which may also fulfill my fantasy of becoming some sort of gamer.
Finally, I finished up all the fun and games of learning and winded down my day by watch the episode of SNL that I will be writing about for tomorrow. As you can see, I keep a pretty full day and other than the "admin" stuff, this is exactly what I would do if I won the lottery only then I would implement even more writing.
Oh well, that's what my dream is, now it's time to get to work turning this dream into fruition. I'll check in tomorrow to share where I'm at...
Sincerely,
The Wicker Breaker
