So this week, I've been getting a lot of walking in as I try to break in the habit of taking my dog out for walks on a regular basis. First, I need the exercise but mainly because she seems a little depressed from living with my, shut-in, self and getting out really seems to make her day. The poor old thing loves to walk even though it burns her out for the rest of the day.

Over the weekend I bought a new pair of shoes with memory foam soles which is part of the reason why I've been putting in the extra steps. Though the soles are much more comfortable than my "running shoes," I still need to break in the overall fit which has left my feet feeling like they are on fire as my fat feet force the leather to stretch.

Yesterday I woke up to a pain in my left foot that had me swearing that the toe next to my pinky toe was broken. Those two toes kind of cross so I was guessing that the stiffness of the new show most have been causing the irritation. This pain got worse throughout the day to the point where I thought it might take me out of commission for a little while.

The weird thing was that there was no bruising or swelling which was the telltale sign of when I broke my pinky toe that eventually healed in this slightly twisted position. At the end of the day, I'd iced it but the pain was not going away.

Keep in mind that I'm six foot four and overweight, so foot access isn't all that easy for me even when I'm in better shape but the pain was getting so intense that I had to get down there to investigate. I'm ashamed to admit what I'm about to say but this is totally what happened.

Due to a combination of my twisted toe, the tight new shoes and unmaintained feet, the toenail of my pinky toe had stabbed into its neighbor toe and I had to pull the two apart as if they were growing together. Looking at the way that my toe align I'm surprised this hasn't happened already because it's not that my toenails were super long but long enough to be disgusting.

Now the intense pain is over with but I can still feel the healing process. Hopefully, this won't affect today's walk because I 18,000 steps away from 100,000 steps in a work week which should put me over the top to win my families weekly Fitbit challenge. All I want is that one badge to replace the taunting placeholder.

I'll let you know how the challenge goes when I check in tomorrow.

Talk to you then,

The Wicker Breaker
