Well, I'd say that this turned out to be yet another successful weekend. Not only did I successfully survive one more apocalyptic prophecy, I also managed to get a lot done in my efforts to rewrite my first novel, adding another twenty pages to the done pile. To add to this sense of accomplishment that I'm feeling, a little over four of these rewritten pages are made up of brand new content.

This new additional content is exciting because, as I've pointed out before, this novel is an adaptation of a screenplay that I wrote a few years ago so the original page count was a little low making this more of a novella than a full-blown novel. That's why this piece was originally adapted to be chapter one of a mega-novel made up of five screenplays of mine that I also adapted into a novella format.

This mega-novel created a new problem to where it became way too long, to the point where I couldn't get anyone, peer or professional, to read it. This is why I'm extra excited that this isn't just a proofreading draft where I am simply cleaning up word but instead is a legitimate rewrite where almost every single sentence is being reworked.

I'm also very excited because I can see a clear improvement in my ability to write using standard prose, highlighting that I've may have finally broken free from the limited language I felt that I had to use while writing scripts.

This was another annoying thing about the screenwriting format. If I wasn't getting criticized for using flowery words, I was getting it for writing too dry and technical. All the while the finished product is nothing but a blueprint to be translated into a visual medium. So, aside from the dialog, it shouldn't really matter how the other words are said as long as they get the point across but unfortunately, that's not the case.

Who knows, maybe now that I'm developing more overall skill in multiple areas of writing there may be a day that I give screenwriting another shot using this new found balance. I don't think this will happen anytime soon though because I still prefer to write in a style that would be too much of a gamble of such a profit-based industry like film.

Oh well, it's now super early in the AM... at least it was when I started to write this post, now it's just normal AM... whatever... it's the morning of a new day and I've already knocked out one page of the rewrite. This is promising because it's already put me into story mode making me feel that I will get a lot done as soon as I finish today's SNL review and I can't wait to get to work.

So with that, I will say ado and talk to you soon when I check in with another update.

Talk to you then.

Sincerely,

The Wicker Breaker
