About…
Due to mental and physical health issues… I had to take a little time off from the long-term challenges that I create for this blog… I’ll go into more details in The Daily Breaker: Behind The Scenes section… but mainly… I was suffering from burnout after posting multiple posts daily for three-quarters of a decade without any time off… while also working a side job… and still not making enough to live…
Keep in mind… I’ve only made half-assed attempts to monetize this site… I get too bored too easily when it comes to putting any effort towards the business side of things… I just don’t have the self-esteem to aggressively promote myself or my work… I’d also prefer that my audience find me organically because I know that my work’s not for everyone… so I don’t feel comfortable being the one to claim that anyone might like what they read…
Last year… I notice my traffic more than doubled… even though I was doing zero to maintain the site at the time… this led me to be more active in my efforts to monetize this site… first… by adding random affiliate marketing here and there throughout the site… then I signed up for Google Adsense where I started to make fifty-cents to a dollar a day… not much… but enough to let me see that it’s possible for me to earn my own money with my own work…
My enthusiasm died down when… after months… my daily income still maxed out at a buck and some change throughout the day… my solution was to switch my attention to ThatOneStoner.com to use the marketing techniques on a site with more of a focused target audience… feeling I would be able to earn more money using marijuana-themed affiliate ads aimed at the growing market who can now smoke legally… but I don’t promote the site enough for this strategy to work… but I’m still working on the project…
Last month… I discovered an ad placement service called Ezoic that uses AI to optimize ad content and placement based on the visitor’s trends… it’s a free service that’s approved by Google… so I figured… why not give it a shot… my revenue doubled within days… granted that means I now make about a buck-fifty a day instead of seventy-five cents… but… it became more evidence that I do have it in me to make money with my work…
Since then… I’ve spent over twelve hours a day tweaking the site’s SEO to bring up the average even more… that’s when I decided to officially take on 365 Days Of Marketing And Me for my return to the long-term challenge game to show my work as I attempt to officially turn this website into my primary job…
The Challenge…
I originally intended to start 365 Days Of Marketing And Me two years ago… before the blogging burnout forced me to take a break… I’d just come off Operation Achieve Anything where I worked through a self-help book called Achieve Anything In Just One Year… at that time… I was just going to work through the book’s lesson a day for a year format to see where it might take me… which I figured would be a bunch of playful complaining when I didn’t like an assignment… the same way I griped while working through the bumper sticker sounding self-help tasks that I didn’t agree with…
Now… I still want to work through the book 365 Days Of Marketing… only… instead of making jokes about any advice that I disagree with… I now plan to figure out how to update each suggested marketing techniques to meet the needs of creative introverts like me… who dread the extroverted actions that are required to be successful when it comes to marketing… that… and the book is from 2011… so I’m sure any of the online marketing techniques could use an update…
I will share how much money I make from the ads that I use to share evidence of improvement… if you chose to follow my progress… remember… this isn’t a get rich quick scheme… considering that I’ve already put in eight years worth of work that’s only brought in $500 so far… my hopes are that other prolific creators with low self-esteem will join me and learn how to turn our hobbies into our main source of work!!!
The Goals…
My main goal at this time is to earn an average of $5.00 a day to replace my need to waste hours a day trying to earn the same five buck through online user testing and other forms of micro-gig work…
My second goal is to earn enough to hire an assistant to help me proofread my work and catch all of my dyslexic word order choices and typos… someone to brainstorm storm my ideas with… and someone who can drive me to my doctor’s appointments when needed…
Finally… I would like to earn enough to afford to take a legitimate vacation to some form of health care resort to come up with a recovery plan… if that even is a thing… if not… I at least want to earn enough to afford to go to a weight loss retreat with a spa… to get a pampered break from the fat but still starving artist lifestyle…
I hope that you not only enjoy my attempt to create entertaining content to covers mundane topics but that you may also learn from my trials and errors to avoid the rudderless meandering that takes place when you’re an introvert trying to fit in to the extrovert’s alien world…
