365 Days Of Marketing And Me: Day One - 1/1/2021
/Welcome To 365 Days Of Marketing And Me!!!
One Creative Introverts Effort To Take On The Extroverted Marketing World…
Day One…
As I noted in the About 365 Days Of Marketing And Me page… I was supposed to start this project over two years ago… but had to take a break from blogging thanks to effect that burnout was having on both my body and my brains… I went six years posting daily without a legitimate break without earning a single dime for my efforts… all because I’m too much of an introvert with quirky plans to feel confident enough to promote my work as must-read material…
During my break… I started to include ads from Google Adsense… which brought in about thirty bucks a month.. meaning I had to wait three to four months before meeting Google’s one-hundred-dollar mini balance that required to cash out… which was fine enough at the time… since it was better than nothing… and it turns out that a lot of my projects are unintentionally filled with SEO keywords that had the site growing even though I wasn’t doing a thing…
Last month… I discovered a service called Ezoic that uses AI to customize the end-users experience with your site’s advertisements… since the service is free… and I hated the way that Google’s automated ad placement made my pages look like click-bait… I decided… why not give it a try… days later… my revenue went from averaging around $0.75 a day to a little over a buck…
This might not sound like much… but it was the evidence that I needed to see that this site actually could replace my need to find random gig work… simple work that pays well for what it is… but it can take hours to find and qualify for a ten-minute task… hours that can be devoted to creating content instead… so… seeing the robot ad placement actually worked… I got inspired to ad SEO to old pages just written for fun… and after a couple of weeks… my revenue was up to around a two-dollar a day average… piquing my interest in what other passive marketing techniques I can implement to generate more organic growth…
And here we are!!!
I plan to use the book 365 Days Of Marketing as the blueprint for this challenge… It’s an old book from 2011… so… I’ll have to figure out how to adjust to meet current marketing trends when it comes time to the daily assignment… I also plan to tweak each assignment to stay within my introverted comfort zone while staying true to the idea of the book’s advice…
For example… I’m sure there will be a lot about social media and in-person networking events… and I’m not all that interested in anything social anymore… but I will figure out how to make the task at hand work for me… unlike during Operation Achieve Anything… where… whenever the self-help book would get too bumper-stickery… I’d either write a complaint or just make up my own assignment… whether or not my replacement had anything to do with the assignment at all…
I don’t want to be as resistant during this challenge… which might be hard because I’m a creative type who’s not driven by finance and am anti-marketing in many ways… I also don’t want to have to sell anything… I plan to give all of my stuff away and make a few bucks from the ads…
Keep in mind… counting my time off… I’ve been at this for eight years… and have only earned around five-hundred dollars… while spending close to fifteen-grand on web hosting and other services… so this is not a get rich quick effort… I will never promise to show you how you can earn ten-thousand bucks a month… but… I do hope to find ways to help prolific creative introverts like me replace at least part-time income with the work they already might have…
With all that said… let’s move on to today’s assignment!!!
Today… I was supposed to try to find a unique way to take advantage of New Year’s Day to promote your business and/or service… so… I decided to celebrate the day on Twitter by marathon Tweeting every resolution I set from my long-term challenge… 365 Days Of Resolution…
Unfortunately… I’ve been so good at pushing people away over the years that my random return to social media seemed to have gone unnoticed since the site traffic didn’t move all that much… then again… I’ve been having so many technical difficulties with the sites DNS records and SSL Certifications requirements lately… that none of my analytics has matched my past traffic averages for about a month…
Though… I have to admit… it would have been nice to drum up a viral hit… I’m kind of happy that I snuck in the effort under the radar because… aside from a few quick notes… this was my first day back blogging in two years… and feel like I need to ease back in before getting any positive or negative attention…
Remember… my first goal is to make an average of five dollars a day… the analytic issues might also be a bit of a blessing in disguise because it’s dropped my revenue down to the levels they were before I implemented Ezoic’s AI to take over the advertising placement… so… when I finally figure out what I did to make Google stop indexing this site correctly… it will reflect the growth that I saw when I first signed up for the service… that inspired me to revisit and commit to this old 365 Days Of Marketing And Me challenge/plan…
And Finally… The Numbers For The Past Seven Days!!!
