365 Days Of Marketing And Me: Day Twelve - 1/12/2021

One Creative Introverts Effort To Take On The Extroverted Marketing World…

Welcome to day twelve of 365 Days Of Marketing And Me… where I feel like I am getting back in the groove when it comes to the physical act of posting daily… but I still feel the on the fly content that I’m coming up with can still seem forced when I’m not feeling all that inspired by the days topic… I’m fine with this though… since I’m not a huge fan of marketing… I figured this would be a good challenge to exercise my newly found non-screenwriting writer’s voice that I always mentioned that I was searching for in my past challenges…

During my two-year sabbatical from writing anything other than code… I discovered that my problem may have always been that… though I love to write… and am obsessed with storytelling… I’m actually more of a mathematics person over a literature person when it comes to logic… which might why… even after writing daily for over twenty years… I still can’t grasp some of the logic in grammar… and my dyslexia doesn’t help…

I’m finding that when I use this new ellipses approach… that I’m experimenting with… I can focus on what I am trying to say instead of focusing on following rules that I’m not all that sure about in the first place… I don’t think that it’s just that I didn’t pay attention in school… because I was always taking honors math classes and always earned “B”s without effort… “B”s that… as my teachers always loved to point out… would be “A”s if I were to turn in at least one piece of homework…

I now wonder if my love of math is what makes me more experimental with my story structure… because… when it comes to writing… especially for film… there is only one formula you can use… that formula being the three-act structure following The Hero’s Journey using copy and paste Jungian character archetypes… but when it comes to math… the potential for formula exploration is endless… allowing you to experiment however you want… as long as the steps to get to the outcome are sound…

I love it when other writers claim that they enjoy the confining rules because it creates more challenge saying the same thing only different… meanwhile… having access to all of these other collections of words to build entirely new worlds as well as new ways to navigate them… I just don’t understand why someone would waste their imagination spending time in worlds that have already been built… looking for stories that have already been told a billion times before…

Though my work may max out a mediocre… when judged on technical skills… I wouldn’t trade the experience I had while living through each piece for a million bucks… well… unless that million bucks came with full control over the final cut… keeping in mind that my only professional experience with writing was writing for film and television… I’m finding more of the freedom I need… now that I’m adapting my old scripts into novels…

That’s all that I’ve got for now…. so… let’s dig into today’s assignment…

According to the 365 Days Of Marketing book… today is Feast Of Fabulous Wild Men Day… which is pretty much the counterbalance to Women’s Empowerment Day task from last week… the funny thing is… this one is tough for me because I’m not a huge fan of other men… I think this comes from having to deal with my mother’s boyfriends and husbands… she’s married to a nice guy right now… but not one was worth being a role model when I was a kid…

I don’t like sports… or the numbers involved when talking about cars… and would rather make friends than fight… to fulfill the task for today… here is one of my earliest Wicker Breaker blog post about my hatred of action films… which at the time I wrote the piece… I felt that I didn’t like all of the toxic masculinity… but as I’ve been writing this post… I realized that action films are the worst when it comes to sticking to formulas… meant for the men who I actually hate… the simpletons whose answer to everything is violence…

And With That… Here Are The Numbers For The Past Seven Days!!!
