Welcome to day number twenty-nine of 365 Days Of Marketing And Me… I know that I claimed that I’d stop complaining about the technical issues with this site… but since yesterday was Fun At Work Day I figured… why not give another update considering the fact that this site is the closest thing that I have to a job these days… that… and I think I finally resolved the problem…
In my last update about this nonsense… I shared how I learned of a DNS file from SquareSpace that reset when I renewed my domain name… a file that I wasn’t aware needed to be updated in the DNS records where my Name Servers also live… only in the past… my domain host supported by SquareSpace meaning that the file was automatically updated… even after contacting support… I had to figure this out on my own…
Unfortunately… I made a lot of trial and error setting changes to multiple services… making my main problem worse… while support from every service kept telling me that everything looked fine on their end… the other day… I said screw it… and restarted all of the services from scratch… this fixed a lot of problems… but I was still having an issue with my traffic not matching depending on which services analytics I’d check…
These inconsistent stats affect my revenue… which was going up every day from the time I signed up for Ezoic until the DNS change caused my site to stop working the way I was used to… I kept asking SquareSpace’s support team where they pull their statistics from… because they were the one’s who were generating the stats that were connected to my income… while the other services stats were closer to my old numbers… but never got a straight answer…
Then… just yesterday… keeping in mind that this issue has been driving me insane for almost two months… I found a setting on SquareSpace that allowed me to turn off their tracking cookies… so… I turned off said tracking cookies… and guess what… it worked… now all of the services I use are tracking similar stats… their still a little off… but only by a couple of dozen visitors… and not over a hundred… the discrepancy count that I kept complaining about…
I can’t for the life of me figure out why technical support from SquareSpace didn’t tell me about this ability to turn their tracking on and off… to see if that would resolve the conflicting numbers… this makes two problems in just as many months that caused pretty big issues with both the site and income that could have instantly been fixed if their support would have only listened to the issue… instead of defaulting to cut and paste keyword responses about how they don’t support third-party issues… because both of the issues were on their end the entire time…
Hopefully… this will be the last time I ever bring this issue up… and I even would have kept this to myself if yesterday wasn’t Fun At Work Day and… as I said… this site is the closest thing that I have to a job at this time…
Now that I’m done complaining… let’s dig into the assignment for today…
According to the 365 Days Of Marketing book… today is Corn Chip Day… and since I already did Frito Pie for Chili Day… I’ll have to find some other fun task to do that’ll fulfill today’s assignment… but as usual… you’ll have to wait for tomorrow to see what I end up getting into… and with that… I’m off to the store to buy chips!!!!
