365 Days Of Marketing And Me: Day Three- 1/3/2021

One Creative Introverts Effort To Take On The Extroverted Marketing World…

Three days into 365 Days Of Marketing And Me… and I’m really starting to see why I should do even an ounce of research before jumping into these long term challenges… I actually bought the book 365 Days Of Marketing to be a resolution for 365 Days Of Resolution…but hadn’t read a single page until three days ago… when I decided to return to the world of daily challenges!!!

Since this was somewhat of a last-minute commitment… please excuse the place holder images… I’ll be able to think more about design ideas after I work through a couple more technical issues that I created while shortening URLs in an effort to improve my SEO score… I knew that I had to create redirects for each changed address that’s linked on another page… but didn’t realize that any unused changed links don’t just go away… and these changes also break links to any tags or categories pointing to the old address… and after changing the URLs to over 2500 pages… I created quite a mess…

I’m kind of glad that this happened right before this challenge because it’s forced me to learn how to use Google Search Console to find and resolve these sorts of problems… before… I would just use free SEO site checkers because I was only interested in the display scores… not caring about the marketing numbers… but now that I’m trying to turn this from a hobby to my part-time job… it’s starting to become fun to see how tweaking this or that can seriously affect your income…

When this blog was just a hobby… all that I’d lose was traffic if I messed something up… but… since I’ve never been all that active at promoting my stuff… other than sharing a link after hitting publish… my traffic has always seemed inconsistent either way… now… after f*%king things up… my revenue drop from $50.00 a month down to around $25… even lower than I used to earn on average before I signed up for Ezoic…

Yesterday… after the last of the many 72-hour propagation stages due to DNS and SSL file changes… I saw numbers closer to what I’m used to seeing for the first time in over a month… now I just have a few hundred more issues to resolve before The Wicker Breaker will be properly indexed again… then we’ll really get to see how the marketing efforts are really affecting the bottom line…

Until then… let’s dive into today’s assignment!!!

I actually don’t like to plan for these challenges because I prefer the unknown… I see the benefits of doing your research first… if you’re afraid of failure… but I’ve always been more interested in having to figure out this on the fly… so… as I said… I’ve owned this book for years… and planned to attempt this challenge twice before… but still had yet to read a single page until it was officially New Year’s… well… New Year’s Eve at least…

Maybe a should have… because… for the third day in a row… most of the marketing suggestions have been about gift bags to give away at your physical stores… or team building technics for the staff… as a one-man-show content creator who wants to stay introverted… it might be hard for me to fit each of these assignments into my marketing strategies…

That said… I have no plans to give up this journey… even if it means just honoring the theme of the day without complaining… today’s theme is Chocolate-Covered Cherry Day… so… while getting my meds at Rite-Aide… I grabbed a box of Cella‘s Chocolate-Covered Cherries… to enjoy while writing this post!!!

As I said from the get-go… the book 365 Days Of Marketing will just be providing the framework… the actual marketing aspect of this challenge may just have to be brought out in other ways… but who knows… this is all based on reading three pages… once I get caught up and correct all of my indexing errors… I’ll have to go back and read the intro… either way… that’s all that I’ve got for today.

And With That… Here Are The Numbers For The Past Seven Days!!!
