Resolution #273: Turn These Heaps Of Metal, Wiring, And Circuitry Into A 3D Printer!!!

Date: 9-30-2014

Due Date: 9-30-2015

The Resolution: A couple of weeks ago I resolved to buy a 3D pen. When I was searching around the internet to find a good deal I found this full-blown 3D printer at a price I could afford. I decided to back-burner the 3D pen and now I have this pile of chaos to deal with.

Result #273: I Had My 3D Printer Mostly Built… But… Then I Had To Break It Down For My Move Home… And… Managed To Lose Parts In The Process…

Update #1: Construction Begins!!!

Date: 10-6-2014

Above are the pieces they had me start out with.

Below is how far I got in a little over three hours.

My fingers are too sore from screwing these rods through these pieces of plastic that fit very snugly.

I can't wait to see how far I get tomorrow.

Update #2: Progress From Week #2!!!

Date: 10-12-2014

Here is how far I've gotten building my 3D Printer. It's exciting to see it coming together. I'm hoping I'm to the point where I don't need to set aside huge chunks of time to work on this project. I'm thinking if I work on it every night for about a half-hour I should be done by next weekend.

As always, I'll keep you posted.

Update #3: The Conclusion…

Date: 9-30-2015

I bought this 3D Printer Kit back when I had my day job. It was one of those months where you get three paydays making it so that one check can purely go toward something fun. I didn't realize the place I order this from was located in China.

There's nothing wrong with this 3D Printer Kit coming from China other than the fact that they didn't bother to ad English instructions. I'd be willing to look past these foreign directions but the photos seem to be in a different language as well.

It took me a long time to get the printer as far as I did. The photo instructions jump around in an illogical manner that made construction very frustrating. Just when I got to the point of adding the electronic elements I discovered that I missed a step which required me to backtrack several steps of my progress and I needed to tool that I didn't have to do so.

I was so frustrated that I ended up taking a break.

Then, when I decided to move, I have to break it down even further to avoid breaking anything in the mail. This ended up being a smart move because a lot of my things were broken during the shipping process.

Unfortunately, the pieces stayed packed away because my new living space had no built in storage and I didn't have the space to organize everything. I finally fixed that issue this week by adding some of my sister's old furniture to my belongings.

As I put things away I kept my eye out for 3D Printer pieces with plans to put this puppy together in time for a victory. I then found several pieces were missing, nothing more than a couple of nuts and bolts but I don't have the money or transportation needed to get these pieces quite yet.

I should be getting my first paycheck within the next couple of days and when I do I will purchase these pieces and put together my printer.

As always, I'll keep you posted on the progress.
