Resolution #278: Write A One-Act Play...

Date: 10-5-2014

Due Date: 10-5-2015

The Resolution: I was raised by television. If I wasn't watching TV I was at the movie theater. The theater was my babysitter and TV was dad, for it taught me everything I know today.

When I was in High School I signed up for a stagecraft class because it was the closest thing to making movies that my school had to offer.

At the time I just wanted to be a part of the crew. I never had any interest in acting or directing and thought I was too dumb to be a writer.

It felt good taking any part in bringing a story to life.

While in school I did enjoy writing essays that technically fulfilled the assignment but I always felt the need to add a surreal touch to my work. The fact that the teachers didn't enjoy my approach led me to believe I was no good.

It wasn't until I was 21 that I started to enjoy writing and actually thought I was kind of good.

I bought Final Draft 4 and a copy of the Chasing Amy screenplay. That was my school for the first ten years of my writing career until I earned a scholarship to attend the Vancouver Film School.

Throughout my life… I've written songs, poems, essays, screenplays, short scripts, short stories, and even a novel with a graphic novel acting as an intermission of sorts.

The only thing that I've never attempted to write is a stage play.

And that's why we are here today.

By this time next year… I plan to have at least one one-act play written and will hopefully be in the process of putting it on somewhere.

We'll see what happens!!!

Result #278: Between This Blog And My Ghostwriting… I Haven't Had The Energy To Write My Own Fiction For Some Time… But… When That Changes… I Will Write A One-Act Play…

Result #1: The Conclusion…

Date: 10-5-2015

I'm not even fully sure why I set this resolution. The whole point of this experiment was to take a break from fiction while continuing to have something to write.

Well… it happened.

I set it.

I failed.

I owe you a one-act play.
