Resolution #289: Come Up With A Pen Name... To Ghostwrite My Own Work...
/Date: 10-16-2014
Due Date: 10-16-2015
The Resolution: Since the stories that were written by me… as Matt Bunker… interlock to create one giant tale… I have a hard time promoting the individual pieces of the puzzle. I often get ideas for more traditional stories or articles that don't fit into the style of writing I want to be known for.
So my dilemma is, I have a bunch of work that I don't quite have the confidence or marketing skills to promote and a bunch of ideas that I don't want to write because I don't want my name attached to them.
The solution: Come up with a pen name to write and promote these mainstream ideas to practice the business side of writing… using stories that I don't have as strong of a connection to.
Result #289: I've Successfully Come Up With A Pen Name… But… I’m Still Unpublished!!!
Update #1: The Conclusion…
Date: 10-16-2015
When I first set this resolution I was really hoping to be further along in my nonfiction article writing training to the point where I would be submitting articles. I figured having a pen name would mentally free me up to write topics that I wouldn't normally want my name attached to.
By topic I wouldn't normally want my name attached to I'm mean the mundane more than freeing myself to write some sort of politically fueled/offensive manifesto about all that is wrong with this world. No, I just want to be able to write a boring article about picking the right how-to book for yourself and let the fake me be the know it all asshole that actually knows nothing.
Alright… that's not really the article I want to write but you get the idea.
So, I now have a pen name but I'm still not comfortable enough with my nonfiction article writing to even submit work with it. I may use this pen name to write a novel for this year’s NaNoWriMo challenge so that I can write something a little more mainstream than I prefer to write. I'm learning through my ghostwriting jobs that I can pull off a more traditional story there's still just something holding me back from wanting to go that route with my real name.
Ah… the stupid hang-ups of the crazy and creative.
I guess I won't be keeping you posted on this one if I want to keep my pen name a secret.
