Resolution #81: Take A Knife Skills Class... (For Cooking... Not Fighting...)
/Date: 3-22-2014
Due Date: 3-22-2015
Resolution: I wouldn't say that I'm a horrible cook, but I could definitely get better. I plan on making several resolutions over the next couple of months geared toward improving my culinary skills. I figured why not start from the beginning and learn how to properly cut my food.
Result #81: Another Failure Due To A Lack Of Funds… But… I Promise… I Will Learn Proper Chopping Techniques… Someday!!!
Update #1: The Conclusion…
Date: 3-22-2015
Unlike yesterday's Resolution #80 failure, cost and time were a genuine hurdle that helped lead to this latest failure. With the wine tasting… I had anxiety about taking a class alone… feeling that wine tasters are too social and with sophisticated goals for why they’re taking the course… I’m not sure I was ready for that crowd… even at the time of setting the resolution…
When it comes to cooking… however… I see more as an art. Though you may share the end product in a social, sophisticated setting the actual cooking often takes place in solitude. The things you learn in a cooking class can remain in your head to be revealed in the dishes you decided to make based on the lessons learned.
Being that I see cooking techniques as a creative tool and not an ability to recite other's theories and opinions, I can see myself taking a cooking class alone without dealing with any anxiety that I might have in a wine tasting class.
Unfortunately… things just never lined up. Working retail, I had a hard time finding a class that fits into my schedule. Being endlessly broke I never had the money to pay for said class even if things did line up. Also, even though I would feel more comfortable taking a cooking class over a wine tasting class, my social anxiety kept this task from being on the top of the list of things to do.
In order to get around this… I'm going to use the internet to learn proper cutting techniques by the end of the year. Once I get that done I'll move on to the next step to improve my culinary skills.
