/Last night I filled out my mail-in ballot and am happy to be done with my part in this shit show of an election. It actually ended up being more fun than I was expecting because this was the first time I put a real effort into looking into every choice I made.
In past elections, I would vote in the physical polling place. I'd show up knowing very little about the non-hot-button races and issues and just try to figure it out in the booth. Unless it was a race I was aware of I would either vote party lines or make my choice based on the person with the funniest name for the tiny races that don't even bother to list which party the candidate belongs to. When it came to props I would just try to figure it out based on the tiny yet confusing paragraph of a description.
The above may not be the best voting strategy but in my years of joking about it, I know many people do the same, and many don't even put that much effort into the races and issues that don't make the mainstream news.
This year I took it way more seriously. Keep in mind, when I say this, I'm fully aware that there are way better citizens out there that put way more effort into every single issue but I put in enough effort that I feel that none of my choices were blind.
I watched videos explaining each Prop and Measurement, looked into the pros and cons, tracked down articles about each senator and congress person, I even tracked down videos for each of the school board members that are up for election, which has nothing to do with me.
So, I've done my research and am very happy with my choices and despite all the discouraging comments about voting one's conscience by opting out of the lesser evil voting of the two party system, my candidate actually has a platform that I agree with and though I have my doubts I hope there are more silent supporters like me to make enough noise that the third party deniers can stop making the, "now's not the time," argument against any effort to escape this abusive relationship with our current power structure.
This one vote is all I can do. If you have a problem with how I choice to use my right you can go fuck yourself.
And now we wait...
Talk to you tomorrow,
The Wicker Breaker
