/Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
I've never been a huge fan of holidays. The celebratory days like The Fourth of July and New Year's never made sense to me because they always felt like rookie drunk days while the people I would celebrate these days with partied the same no matter what the date. Though I enjoy the time I spend with my family, as an atheist, the religious based holidays don't carry much weight for me either. After moving to Seattle, the family aspect of special days made them even less important to me. Finally, I think the fact that I'm a Leap Year Baby whose birthday doesn't exist 75% of the time has left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.
Anyways, when I first moved to Seattle, I would usually come home for Christmas, and since all of my friends were driving distance from their families, which meant that Thanksgiving was a lonely time for a couple years.
Sure friends would invite me to tag along and join in on their family fun, which was nice but I wasn't all that family friendly in my early twenties so I opted to celebrate in my own way, which usually meant picking up a shift at whatever job I was working.
Eventually, I got to a point where I was working jobs that were good enough to shut down during the holidays, this led me to hunt for other ways to keep myself entertained while everyone was a one.
It was about 15 years ago that I decided to buy "dinner for one" versions of Thanksgiving dishes, sort of like Charlie Brown's shitty Christmas tree. There was also a bunch of booze involve which led me to wake up from a blackout the next day with the title screen of the Duets DVD playing over and over again.
To this day, I have no idea why I opted to watch Duets but the entire experience was so bizarre that I decided to turn it into a tradition. That I've stuck to ever since. Sometimes I go more extravagant with the meals but the booze, blacking out and Duets has been extremely consistent.
Now I just need to heat up the stuffing and soften some carrots in butter and brown sugar then it is off to the races. I'm not looking forward to this year's hangover being that they are getting stronger as I age and drink less and less. This is also the first time I will be drinking in a real long time.
Oh well, we'll see what happens.
Talk to you tomorrow with updates,
The Wicker Breaker
