/Last night turned out to be a very fun night even though it wasn't nearly as surreal as I was thinking/hoping that it would turn out to be. First off, since becoming an official shut-in, I couldn't tell you the last time I was an audience member to an event.
I think the last movie I saw in the theater was about six years ago when I went to a screening of a movie that I worked on. As far as shows go, I think the last time I had anything to do with a crowd and a venue was about five years ago when I was the tambourine player for the band Gilbert Grape And The Truck Nuts and I was on stage to perform for our second/farewell gig.
Other than events I was actually a part of, I think you have to go back close to a decade to find an event with a crowd that I've been to purely to be entertained. This is why I was pretty excited to let down my guard to watch a bunch of RuPaul's Drag Queens perform at an actual venue after powering through every episode on TV over the past couple of years.
To add to my excitement, I was attending the event with my mom, my oldest sister (who happens to be Mormon,) and my youngest sister. I was one sister away from this being a truly funky family event so I was expecting it to be super surreal, which it may have been just a few years ago when said older sister was a bit more uptight because of her beliefs.
Unfortunately, the surreal aspect that I was super excited for didn't end up being the case. That's not to say that it was a disappointment because the show on its own was entertaining enough to make up for the extracurricular letdown.
The only thing that sucked was how even though they use his name and collection of queens, RuPaul himself wasn't there to grace the stage even though this particular show took place in his hometown. I guess my consolation prize was getting to sit across the aisle from a winner of Project Runway.
Though I don't think this really helped to resolve my social anxiety and desperate desire to avoid crowd, it didn't hurt either because, as I said, I ended up having a really good time to where if I were offered to go again I'd say yes without thinking twice, which I don't think would be the case if I was dragged out to see a band. Ah, the joys of getting old, especially when you have a head full of mental disorders.
Alright, now that I shared my tale of last night, it's time to move on and get to work. This should be a pretty productive day because last night while having fun, I also manage to catch a cold which means I will be left alone to work without any interruptions. As always, I'll let you know what I manage to get up to when I check in to say hi tomorrow.
Talk to you then,
The Wicker Breaker
