/I'm really beginning to feel a disconnection with time as I crawl deeper and deeper into my hermit crab shell. Though I severely cut back my activity on my personal social media accounts ever since 365 Days of Resolution failure, I was still using Facebook as a way to passively keep up to date with my friends and the world that we live in. That is until this election cycle that turned the platform into a political shit show that I no longer want anything to do with.
I find myself turning off more and more alerts as more apps seem to be crowbarring the political talk along with their regular service. Take Yahoo for example, ever since New Year's they've been sending me stories all throughout the day when I never approved this type of intrusion. As far as I can see, there is no turning this notification off without turning off me email alerts as well. Luckily no one emails me anymore but now there's a good chance that I might miss a message because I don't want to be bothered throughout the day with this forced propaganda.
Not only am I now avoiding the news, my main source of entertainment is Saturday Night Live from the 70s making my connection to the present worse than it's ever been in my entire avoidant lifetime. It feels so nice to fall back to those times because of the safety that comes from knowing the outcomes of the political concerns being satired.
So, if avoiding the news and living in the 70s, as far as televised entertainment goes, wasn't enough, I randomly decided to listen to the backlog of my favorite podcast rather than seeking out new content. Sure I still listen to the new episodes of the podcasts that I'm subscribed to but for a bulk of the week, I'm audibly a decade behind.
It's kind of amazing that my world has gotten so small while technology has gotten so big that I could control what period of time that I live in. I know many might say that this is not the time for this sort of apathetic avoidance but in all honesty, I've been building to this point far before the election.
Now it's time to travel back in time to April 9th, 1977 so I can watch whoever Julian Bond sling some jokes with The Not Ready For Prime Time Players.
Talk to you tomorrow, when I share what I find.
Yours truly,
The Wicker Breaker
