I just got back from a long walk with the dog and I'm pretty excited to have found a nature trail through the canyon that runs just a couple blocks behind my house. Of course, I always knew that the canyon was there, and my sister told me about the trail years ago, today was just the day that I build up the courage to check it out.

Now when I say courage, I don't mean that I was afraid of any animals, poisonous plants or any other natural aspects of the trail, no, I was more afraid of finding a terrain that I was too unfit to handle.

When we walk the street on any given day, I get to pick and choose my path based on how much I want to be challenged and at this current stage of my attempt to keep active, I prefer the path of the least resistance.

A couple days ago, I started to notice that I no longer get as winded when walking and if I do, I recover much faster than even a month ago. It was at this same time that I notice my "Cardio Fitness Level" on my Fitbit had made a move in the positive direction for the first time since I have bought it.

Between that, and the fact that I'm now down 60lbs from the start of the year, I'm more willing to push my willingness to step outside of my comfort zone when it comes to physical activities. So I decided today would be the day that me and the dog when off-roading for today's adventure.

Not only did I enjoy the feeling of being outside of the city with home only two blocks away, but I also loved being able to let my dog off her leash to give her a real sense of freedom. Though she's stubborn like a cat in that she'll only come to you when she wants something and is then picky as hell when she gets it, she's also pretty good at walking like a good dog especially for having no real training.

I'm so glad that I finally looked into this trail because it will allow me to take her out while getting to take a break from society. The only thing that sucks is the main reason the access path to the canyon is there is to provide access to the gas and power lines to the city in case they need to do maintenance.

Once you get to the actual canyon, though, it's nice and feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure the sounds of the highway that run along the side of said canyon would take me out of this hippie mood, but I never leave the house without headphones so I forgot it was even there.

Today was just a short venture into the trail. I can't wait to explore it much further. Now that I've got my Fitbit steps out of the way, with my SNL review for the day posted, all I have to do is hit publish and the rest of the day is mine to do whatever. Of course that whatever, is the same thing I always work on and what I'll be writing about tomorrow.

Talk to you then,

The Wicker Breaker
