Several years ago, a friend of mine who was raised in Guam and I were working on a film that took place in a classroom. During one of our breaks, he told me that he found it interesting how he was raised with the world map as the focal point of the classroom while American children spend their developmental years staring at a map of the United State.

It's no wonder we grow to be such global narcissists. I could see how having the World Map as a secondary resource can make it feel like you're on a world of your own. Hell, we don't even use a map of our continent since we cut out our neighbors from the north and south.

Keep in mind that my perspective is that of an American who's visited Mexico a hand full of times and lived in Canada for a year. Other than that, I am not all that well traveled but I've also lived on three on three of the four corners of America and worked in film where I've met people from all walks of life, so though I'm a shut in now, there was a time that I did get around.

This anecdote about maps at school only added to my obsession about how we are living in a parallel reality but not in a Sci-Fi way. It also made me wish that I was more of a performer because it gave me an idea for a podcast and/or YouTube channel that I thought might iron some of these regional based educational difference out.

The idea would be to get several teams of podcasters and/or YouTubers to represent their country and share the history that is being taught in their schools. Each episode would focus on a specific time in history and the first segment would purely detail what is being taught.

The second segment would give the host an opportunity to discuss the differences between what is being taught now vs what they learned when they were kids as well as what their experiences have taught them now that they're out on their own.

Then before these segments get released, each team would listen to all the participating shows. They would then have a segment where they discuss the differences that may arise. Finally, all of the teams would come together for a separate show to set aside the egos of both the victors and the loser to try and determine what really went down before moving on to the next subject.

I feel like this would be the perfect time for a show like this. As team-based politics continue to grow out of control, it's growing harder to judge the present when so much of the past is build off of patriotic lies that change over time as needed.

I wish I had the resources, talent, and time to develop this with any real hope but this isn't the case so instead I decided to just throw it out there to the internet just to see what happens. If by any chance someone does decide to run with this, all that I ask is that you credit me for the idea and contact me because I have more ideas that would make this be more interactive and interesting. That and I'd also like to help with the research and outside of the show writing.

I have zero expectations that anything will come from this pitch. Last night, I fell asleep to a BBC documentary and as always, I found myself confused by how they treat periods of our history that we're taught have unclear motives as if they simply are stating the facts.

So, there you have it. That's my thought for the day. Now it's time to get on with my other nonsense to get ahead of the game because once again, I have jury duty tomorrow.

Talk to you soon,

The Wicker Breaker
