/Sometimes I wonder how much damage all the time traveling that I participate in is doing to my mind. The less time that I spend in the present the more I wonder how relevant the concept of time will be as technology continues to grow. With more and more work going virtual there will eventually come a time when our daily activities will no longer be as strongly tied our clocks.
Sure there will always be deadlines but working from home allows people to determine their own schedule to keep to the right pace without being locked to the Mon-Fri 9-5 schedule. Sure most people will probably lock themselves into structured schedules but even they will see the hours blend together, even more, when that structure is self-determined and easy to change on a whim.
This work aspect isn't my big argument but I do no longer see a difference in days since I started to work from home. This working from home allowed me to tap into the true time bender that inspired me to write this post.
As you probably know, I am now doing SNL reviews and currently spend about two hours a day living in 1988 as I watch and review the episode from season thirteen. Then as soon as post my review for the day I move on to do the prep-work for future reviews where I add the sketch list for every episode ever made, having already created each page and this being the final step to adding as much to the layout that I possibly can without having to watch the show, in an effort to free up time in the future.
As I jump back and forth between the '80s, '00s, and present time, I can't help but see that nothing has changed with constant troubles in the Middle East over oil and political leaders who have no idea what they are doing yet continue to have growing wallets from industries that profit from these conflicts. What makes things worse is that it doesn't matter which party is running the show, which is a point that seems to go unnoticed or at least is denied depending on which party you root for.
To top this time twisting off, I also mainly listen to old podcasts while I write to escape all of the modern day bickering that is otherwise unavoidable. Even though these old podcasts are comedy based, it still allows me to see how we got to this point with more subtle hints about the evolution of chaos. More importantly, this practice continues to blur the line of what it really means to be present.
Though at first, I did travel back in time entertainment-wise to escape all the modern issues, I've found that rather than getting away, I've put myself in a situation where I've probably gotten the best history lesson in my life as I often have to look up issues from the past that SNL used to make their punchlines in my effort to understand the jokes and the deeper and deeper I go, I'm finding that the true joke is on the average citizens of this planet who think that our leaders have us on their minds at all.
I wish I was better at communicating my findings but it seems that every time I say anything to the effect of "Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it," I either get laughs from those who agree or told to shut up by those who prefer to stick to the course as if the people who are creating these conflicts actually have the answers.
Unfortunately, I barely have the energy to deal with my own issues so other than these daily posts and other blog entries I now keep my two cents to myself unless I get drunk and take to social media.
Sorry if this post got sloppy at points, I had to rewrite it from memories as the app that I write this on crashed just as I was about to hit publish and though I think I covered most of my points, I feel the wording was a little better the first time around because it felt more natural than an attempt to recapture my original intent.
Oh well, it is what it is and now it's time to move on and travel back to 1988 to spend a little time with Tom Hanks and then jump forward a decade and a half to continue to work on Phase IV of my SNL Prep-Work Plan.
As always, I'll check in tomorrow with another update.
Talk to you then,
The Wicker Breaker
