/Yesterday, after publishing my post, I started my next lesson for the Android App building course that I'm taking. Normally to start a lesson, I look over the final assignment so I have an idea as to what I need to pay extra attention to during the lectures. I was excited to see that this week I will be building a fancy media player app.
It didn't take long before I figured out my overall concept and couldn't wait to learn how to make it a reality. As the lessons went on and on I started to get nervous because they weren't coming anywhere near touching on how to deal with sound or how to extra metadata from sound files which my media player is supposed to display.
This was making me really nervous because, so far, the assignments have been about a half step more advanced that what's been taught, I guess as a way to teach you how to search for solutions on your own. This is a great technic which I do think has helped me getter grasp the concepts that I'm working with.
By the time I got to the end of the set of lessons, I was nowhere near knowledgeable of what I needed in order to build the media player of my dreams. I was pretty pissed at first because I wasn't looking forward to doing that much research on my own. The knowledge gap was also so big that I felt it would take me forever to figure it out.
That's when I reread the assignment to find that we were only responsible for the user interface and the audio functionality wasn't required at all. I'm guessing they are setting it up so that we can just fill in the gap at a later date to get to the point where it is a fully functional app.
This was a huge relief and now I'm looking forward to getting started, which is going to happen as soon as I publish this post.
I can't wait to share what I come up with.
Talk to you tomorrow with details on my progress.
