Resolution #89: Find A Writing Mentor...
/Date: 3-30-2014
Due Date: 3-30-2015
Resolution: I've been writing for close to two decades now. I feel, content-wise, my writing has improved immensely over the years. The problem is, business-wise, I'm still at square one, and now that I'm branching away from screenwriting I feel twice as lost.
Hopefully, by this time next year, I will have found the right person to give me the guidance I need to make a living as a writer. Now I just need to figure out how to find this mentor.
Result #89: Though I Received Several Responses From “Mentors” The “Writing Mentors” Managed To Stay Away…
Update #1: The Conclusion…
Date: 3-30-2015
Moments after posting that I was looking for a #mentor I received several responses from professional mentors who saw the hashtag on Twitter. Though they seemed to be very positive/motivating people their services weren't necessarily what I had in mind.
Though I'm not fully sure what to expect out of a mentor I do know that I specifically want a writing mentor and not a motivational speaker that is providing a service.
I feel the problem is that I'm still struggling to feel comfortable enough to reach out to anyone for anything. I know it's a flawed fantasy that I'm working hard to correct but I'm still living with hopes that my writing will just be discovered someday.
My work is out there for people to read so this feeling is only partially delusional but still fully flawed. I feel like I'm making progress in correcting this state of mind but could still really use the help from a writer who's already made it to mentor me through this maze into a creative career.
Though I failed to find a writing mentor within a year I'm not going to give up. I'm currently taking a marketing class in hopes to use what I learn to market myself. Maybe once I'm done I'll have the skills I'm lacking to approach a writing mentor with a promising pitch.
As always, I'll let you know how things turn out.
