Resolution #90: Reduce My Carbon Footprint By Not Driving My Truck For A Month...

Date: 3-31-2014

Due date: 3-31-2015

Resolution: If you don't know me, that's actually my truck in the picture above.  It starred in the movie Scrapper that I worked on a couple of summers ago. I love this truck… but it's an old gas guzzler that is probably responsible for at least one of the petitions that I've signed lately.

Now that I live so close to my job the only reason I ever need to drive is to get to my friend’s house. Luckily because of this job, I barely have time to see them anymore.

Over the past several months I've barely driven and it’s been pretty nice, no gas to by, no fear of new noises, no worrying about being pulled over whether or not guilty of anything. I'm kind of interested in seeing what life would be like without having a vehicle at all.

Oh yeah, also my tabs and license are both just expired and I owe money on a ticket before I can renew either. So this resolution is partially an attempt to be environmentally conscious and partially an attempt to be conscious of the law.

If my subtle link above wasn't enough, click here to see my truck do some serious acting!!!

Result #90: Not Only Did I Reduce My Carbon Footprint For One Month… I've Continued On For An Entire Year… After Selling My Famous Truck…

Update #1: The Conclusion…

Date: 5-1-2014

I've officially made it through the month of April without even starting my truck.

Ever since I quit doing film work I've pretty much cut my driving down to once a week… if that. Part of the reason I made this resolution was to test whether or not I need a vehicle at all. I've come to the conclusion that I don't.

I'm sad to announce that my beloved truck will be going back to the friend who sold it to me several years ago.

I'm just not a good car person.

I think out of the 20 plus years I've been driving I've had insurance maybe three of those years. My license is currently suspended because I didn't pay for a “driving without insurance” ticket from a few years back when I got pulled over for expired tabs. All this illegal activity has turned driving into a very anxious ridden experience that I no longer need.

I fully own the fact that I've been irresponsible and this is my way of correcting my ways as I move forward as a pedestrian.

And with that, I consider this resolution to be a SUCCESS!!!

Update #2: Addendum…

Date: 3-31-2015

It's now been an entire year since I've driven a vehicle. It's harder living without a car now that I call Southern California my home but I still don't plan on driving anything any time soon.
