Resolution #298: Get A Reader From Greenland To Visit The Wicker Breaker!!!

Resolution #298: Get A Reader From Greenland To Visit The Wicker Breaker!!!

Date: 10-25-2014

Due Date: 10-25-2015

The Resolution: Way back in Resolution #18 I vowed to "turn the world blue with the reach of TheWickerBreaker." This means getting at least one visit to the site from each country in the world to change the color of my statistics map from grey to blue.

At the time I made this resolution I'd already had at least one reader from Canada, The United States, and Mexico; three of the four large chunks of the Northwest Hemisphere. I've been obsessed with getting a reader from Greenland ever since.

I'm hoping this stunt of shameless self-promotion will work to get one new reader from one specific location but if you're reading this and you know someone from any of the other "grey countries," please send them a link to your favorite post to fill in some of the other gaps.

Thanks in advance!!!

Resolution #299: Collage This Eye Sore Of A White Wall...

Date: 10-26-2014

Due Date: 10-26-2015

The Resolution: I love my tiny apartment. The only thing that sucks about apartment living is that you often have to live with boring white walls.

Well when I say the only thing that sucks, I mean about the sanctuary within the wall of the abode. If you take the entire complex into account then there are tons of things that suck about apartment living, especially the counterfeit service dog that does nothing but bark all day.

Anyway, all the other walls are nicely decorated with art. This giant white wall didn't look so off-putting when most of it was covered by my old entertainment center.

Now that I've started to convert my living space to be more studio-like and less living room looking; every time I look over my shoulder while working at the computer I see nothing but blah.

I don't know if I need more stimulation but I want more. When I get stuck in thought and look off to the side I want to be able to gaze at a collection of imagery that may trigger my next move.

So, rather than hang a few pieces of art, I decided to fill the space with art in one giant collage.

Resolution #300: To Honor Making 300 Of These... I'll Bowl A 300 Game On Wii Bowling...

Date: 10-27-2014

Due Date: 10-27-2015

The Resolution: Yes, I own a Wii. I got it from my mom for Christmas a few years ago. My favorite games are tennis, boxing, and bowling. Since I'm up to Resolution #300 I figured I'd seek out a 300 based project.

I narrowed it down to either spray painting a six-pack on my abs, throwing on some tighty whiteys, and dash around the apartment with a fake sword yelling, "This is SPARTA!!!"

This doesn't sound fun to me.

What does sound fun is buying a Wii Bowling Ball, A Wii Ball Bag, and a pair of bowling shoes to then attempt to bowl a 300.

Wish me luck.

Resolution #302: Work On My Balance...

Date: 10-29-2014

Due Date: 10-29-2015

The Resolution: For the past month I've been learning how much balance exercises actually work the entire body. I've been working up to be able to plank for five minutes as part of Resolution #266 and it amazing how many muscles ache the day after each attempt.

Right now I'm able to plank for four minutes and even that feels like a full-body workout as I collapse to the floor when the timer beeps. This makes me want to experiment with other balance workouts to see if this is the fitness route for me.

I'm going to start out by getting a balance board then searching the internet for workouts in an attempt to find a daily routine that I’ll be willing to stick to. Between the daily push-ups, ab wheel, and planking I feel like I'm getting close.

Again, I’m hoping to create another positive habit.

Resolution #303: Make A Batch Of Homemade Dry Ice...

Date: 10-30-2014

Due Date: 10-30-2015

The Resolution: Ever year around Halloween I get the craving to play with dry ice. Last night I was searching for a place to purchase a batch when I saw a "How to make your own dry ice" article.

Apparently… all you need is a fire extinguisher and a bag!!!

I know, due to the expense of a carbon dioxide extinguisher, it would probably be cheaper to buy the finished product but where's the fun in that?

Resolution #304: Fill My Light Fixtures With These Bluetooth Controlled Light Bulb Speakers!!!

Date: 10-31-2014

Due Date: 10-31-2014

The Resolution: I chose this as a resolution mainly because I'm interested in the potential sound of this almost literal surround sound. I also think it may lead to some fun when I'm in a special mind state to hear the voices from podcasts that I listen to as they sound from above live the voices of gods.

Resolution #305: Create Two Parallel Worlds In The Sims... To Test Synchronicity!!!

Date: 11-1-2014

Due Date: 11-1-2014

The Resolution: This resolution is meant to create the method to get a pair of parallel Sims to make the same exact decisions at the same exact time. If I figure it out I plan to run the actual experiment once I'm done with 365 Days of Resolution.

Here are the basics.

I want to get two computers that are exactly the same. These two computers will only play their own copy of the game The Sims. I want to create two characters that have the exact same attributes. Then use a cheat to make sure neither has to worry about finance and use some of the money to build two of the exact same cozy houses filled with all the creature comforts a Sim would need. I also plan to use a cheat so that the two clones already know how to cook, clean, shit, and piss so the only thing these characters will have to worry about is their social life.

Once I get all that figured the game will start with both Sims striking up a conversation with a neighbor. No matter how the neighbor responds the clones will react with the same reaction.

I'm trying to see just how different virtual lives can be based on the reactions of others.

I hope I can figure this out because I really want to see how it turns out.

We'll see.

Resolution #306: Learn How To Really Use A Camera And Develop Film...

Date: 11-2-2014

Due Date: 11-2-2015

The Resolution: I hate to admit this but after five years of working on movies in the lighting department, working very closely with the camera department, I still have no idea what all the settings on a camera actually mean.

I'm sure this lack of knowledge shows in the crappy cellphone shots that I share to show the progress of my resolutions.

I figure, since I don't plan on giving up blogging anytime soon, I really need to figure out how to finally use a camera to give the site a more professional appearance.

I added the element of learning how to develop film because it sounds interesting and may lead to another form of art that brings pleasure to my life.

Resolution #307: Participate In This Year's NaNoWriMo...

Date: 11-3-2014

Due Date: 11-3-2014

The Resolution: NaNoWriMo is an annual writing contest where they challenge you to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November.

The prize?

You end up with a complete novel.

I did this last year and it was very fun. NaNoWriMo is how I wrote the first draft of my novel Doug: A Life.

I know this year is going to be rough because of all the other resolutions I have to deal with but I will be adapting my screenplay AA: Alcoholics Annoy Us as part of Resolution #159.

This way I won't have to worry about coming up with the story and will have deadlines to meet.

If you can't tell, I enjoy having deadlines in my life.

Resolution #308: Build My Very Own Mechanical Clock...

Date: 11-4-2014

Due Date: 11-4-2015

The Resolution: There used to be a tradition in my family where my grandfather made his children and grandchildren a handmade clock for their wedding present. Unfortunately… at this rate… it seems that I'm never going to get married and even if I do my grandfather has passed so won't be making any more clocks any time soon.

Just like my solution to my relationship problems I'm going to have to take care of this one myself.

Resolution #309: Finally Make It All The Way Through Moon Patrol...

Date: 11-5-2014

Due Date: 11-5-2015

The Resolution: Did I say that Mike Tyson's Punch-Out was my favorite game back in Resolution #28? I mean, it's true that is my favorite game with that level of graphics. My all-time favorite game is Moon Patrol. I'm pretty sure we had a low budget copy of it for our Magnavox Odyssey II. Being that it was one of the few games we had, I got real good at it.

It's weird, even though there was a copy at home I would still seek out Moon Patrol every time we went to Chuck E. Cheese's and would play it for hours. Last night, I think it was George Takei who posted a link to a new online video arcade filled with the classic. As I was scrolling through the games, there is was...

This brought back some fond memories and led me to question whether or not this game is beatable. I know I've made it through the first two courses that run from A to Z but I can't remember what happened next.

I don't think I got a congratulatory game over with credits, or if it went on to another level that was a different color where things moved faster.

This is going to be the year that I figure out just how far this game goes.

Resolution #310: Spend An Afternoon Hanging Out With Goats!!!

Resolution #310: Spend An Afternoon Hanging Out With Goats!!!

Date: 11-6-2014

Due Date: 11-6-2014

The Resolution: One of my earliest memories is a trip to Disneyland where we went to the petting zoo and a little Billy Goat became my best friend while we were there. He'd follow me around, sat next to me on the rocks, and just chilled.

At one point I tried to pick it up to see if I could make a run for it with the little guy.

I didn't really think I could make it out of the petting zoo and across the park with this goat, to then get in the car with my parents with this unexplained goat. I was just testing the first part of the fantasy as to whether or not I could pick the goat up without it freaking out.

Though the goat didn't seem to mind me, the employees certainly did.

I've been a fan of goats ever since.

I'm not as showy with my love of goats as I am with my love of penguins, monkeys, and squirrels but they are a favorite.

I've known for a while that you can rent goats to maintain your yard and have always wanted to try it. The problem is I don’t have a yard.

This year I plan to borrow a yard to rent some goats and just hang out for a day.

Resolution #311: Learn The Art Of Teddy Bear Taxidermy...

Date: 11-7-2014

Due Date: 11-7-2015

The Resolution: I've always been a fan of novelty taxidermy. There have been times in my life where I’ve wanted to give it a shot. The only problem is I don't think I have it in me to the gutting and skinning of a once-living animal.

But I've got all these taxidermy ideas that I have to get out.

Therefore, I'm going to learn true taxidermy techniques, from building a mold, to tracking down realistic eyes, and teeth and properly mounting the skin and accessories to the mold.

Who knows? This may be my new thing.

Resolution #312: Apply For A Patent To Legitimately Use The Phrase "Patent Pending"!!!

Date: 11-8-2014

Due Date: 11-8-2015

The Resolution: I've registers all of my screenplays through the WGA and have official US Copyrights for two of them. The only problem is, there's nothing cool to say about these documents.

I've always wanted to be able to describe a creation of mine and finish the explanation with the words, "Patent Pending."

Sure I jokingly say it all the time, but who doesn't.

I hope by this time next year I'll be able to combine a few of the new trades I've learned to invent something patent worthy, or at least Patent Pending worthy.

Maybe this will be the year I finally figure out my Easy Cheese style cream cheese dispenser.

Resolution #314: Visit Career Advisor To Help Me Figure Out My Clusterfuck Of A Resume...

Date: 11-10-2014

Due Date: 11-10-2015

The Resolution: I think it's about time for another career change. One of my biggest hurdles is that I don't actually want a career. Even when I was living the dream of working on movies and writing during my free time, as soon as I joined the union the job became real and monotonous to me. That's when I decided to leave.

My latest venture in retail was never meant to be a permanent move. I desperately needed a job to pay the bills and there was a sign on the door saying that they were hiring. Being that the store was within walking distance from my apartment, I decided to take it.

Now I am suffering a slow death from within.

That's okay; I'm not going to be there much longer.

I don't really know what to do to find balance in a job that I like that also gives me the time to work on my own thing.

I have no idea what I'm qualified for. Between my low self-esteem and my assumption that you need a college education to get any job worth keeping, I usually stick to hunting for entry-level low paying gigs.

I have no idea how to work my extracurricular activities into my resume to find a job that’s actually a fit for me.

So I think it's time for professional help.

Resolution #317: Create A Cubbyhole In My Place Designated Purely For Napping...

Date: 11-13-2014

Due Date: 11-13-2015

The Resolution: There's nothing I love more than a good nap. Sure I have my bed where I can nap whenever I want but being that I live in a studio apartment the bed is meant for sleeping and watching TV.

I want a place to nap; a comfy cubbyhole that is purely meant to escape the world for stolen hours of sleep and by this time next year I plan to have that space.
