Last night I finished my second round of tests for the latest job that I'm applying for. I think I did a pretty good job but I'm a little nervous. I don't know why I've been so secretive about the positions that I'm applying for. I think it's a combination of not wanting to get my hopes up and not wanting to jinx myself that leads me to stay silent during my efforts to find work.

There's also a part of me that is very excited about the potential but weary of the reality of working for someone else. I fantasize about working when I want for as long as a feel like to make as much money as I want (within the limitations of the salary being offered) which, for the most part, will be the case if I land this particular job.

What I don't factor into my fantasies are the annoying processes and vague feedback that comes with work from home jobs, especially since I'd be doing something new and may mess up a bit at the beginning. For my last job, we would get random evaluations and links on how to do better without every providing proper training.

So, the secret is, I'm applying for a captioning job where I'd be transcribing what is being said in videos to then set the text to appear on screen at the appropriate time. This is exciting to me not only because of all of the freedoms that come with being a self-employed contractor but there is potential that I may be entertained or learn from the videos that I would be captioning.

Sure, there's going to be some boring stuff, but I'm a person that watches CSPAN for fun. During the test I had to caption three short videos. One was a simple explainer video with one person talking very clearly and one line at a time. Not all that exciting of a video but fun as a typing game which is also appealing to me.

For the second test, I had to caption a video from the Daily Show. This one was more challenging as there were two people talking and the guest had a strong accent but the video was both entertaining and informative which made me not mind taking the extra time to double check my accuracy.

Finally, there was a new hire video for some solar company that I had to caption. Whoever edited this video wasn't all that good because the music was so loud I could barely hear what was being said. The cuts were also atrocious to where the transitions were so close the new person talking almost cut off the last person's final words. I could see there being a lot of video like this one and even though it led to extra work, I still found it to be rather fun.

Now everything is turned into the employer so it's out of my hands. We'll see what happens and I will let you know when it does.

Talk to you tomorrow,

The Wicker Breaker
