I just learned an interesting lesson that seemed pretty obvious about half way into the issue.

Let start with a bit of a back story. A year before I left Seattle I sold my truck because my license was expired and I had to pay a fine I couldn't afford in order to renew it. Between that and the fact that I was no longer working where I needed to travel so a majority of my needs were within walking distance of my apartment.

Now that I'm living in San Diego, it's kind of more urgent to own a car but I work from home and have no friends so I don't travel all that much. Even if I could afford to drive, it's not on the top of my priorities right now, plus the lack of transportation forces me to walk whenever I need to get supplies.

In Seattle the store was two blocks away with around trip walking time of about fifteen minutes. Here it's an hour to and hour and a half round trip walk to the store and back. This is what I've been doing for the past year and a half and it's been working out pretty well, especially with a Dollar Tree between the two full blown grocery stores which is about a half hour round trip.

I usually go to the dollar tree for snacks and even meals, though it might not be the healthiest choice it not that bad for a lot of things. Today I decided to venture over to one of the more distant stores. My legs were sore from my current attempt at a fitness routine.

My legs were on fire as I walked so when I got to the store I grabbed a cart to rest against as I strolled the isle. I'm usually a basket shopper because I only buy what I need for a day or two, mainly because I don't trust myself with a stockpile of food.

Since I've been working out I've been craving healthier choices which led me to think I might be able to handle more than a couple days worth of supplies. As I shopped I was thinking more about whether or not I could afford what my hands were grabbing and by the time I got to the register I had a half full cart and a problem.

"Oh," I thought to myself, "that's the other reason I shop with abasket."

It should have been obvious from the get go but the basket gives me the ability to gauge what I have to carry home. Today I bought twice what I would usually buy all because I was pushing a cart and the walk home wasn't pleasant at all.

Oh well, I made and just finished a yummy lunch. Now it's time to take a nap then get to work on my classes.

Talk to you tomorrow,
