/So, I've spent another night working on my first real-world Android app and loving every minute of it. Again, I'm also amazed by how helpful the online app building community is. Not only are there endless tutorials on YouTube but there are also open source sites with tons of prewritten code to reverse engineer any feature you need.
I also love that I can go back to listening to podcasts while I work. Since I've been taking classes for the past several months, I've only been able to listen to my shows in the morning while I work my day job and write my daily post, the rest of my days were spent listening to lectures as I worked through my assignments.
Now that the training wheels are off, I can listen to whatever I want and right now, my main focus is getting caught up on The Joe Rogan Experience. I used to keep up with the podcast back when I worked in an office and had eight hours of silence to fill. I then took a couple years off from listening to the show when I started working in film, not because I lost interest but because I lost a lot of listening time.
About two years ago, I decided it was time to get caught up and I've been working on it ever since which is a lot harder than it may seem. Most podcast post one episode a week that are usually about an hour or two long. Joe Rogan however, posts multiple times a week and each episode runs at least three hours. I'm currently up to July of 2013 and have about 500 shows to listen to in order to get caught up.
So it's taken me two years to get caught up to the point where I decided to revisit the show. Hopefully, I'll soon get caught to where I'm a real-time listener but right now it's very interesting to travel through time.
What I like about Joe Rogan is that he covers all the topics that I'm interested in with a skeptical yet open mind and does it in a way that is very entertaining. He covers conspiracies by just sharing what he's heard while admitting he doesn't know what the truth is but is not afraid to share his thoughts.
Unlike other shows, he shares this information without mongering fear. Unless a guest is completely talking out of their ass, he listens to what they have to say, questioning conflicting or confusing comments in a non-confrontational way. It's as if he really want to get to the bottom of any topic and not just get his point across.
One of the most interesting things about being so far behind is that there is enough non-news talk that I often forget that I'm so far behind, but when they do talk about the events in the news it still seems relevant as they discuss more than just what is happening but what it actually means. This makes it fun to listen to their insights either already knowing the outcomes or at least deeper into events as they play out, giving me instant gratification as I question, "What if they're right?" and often they are.
Of all the podcasts I've marathoned my way through, The Joe Rogan Experience has been the most entertaining in that it leads me to imagine that I'm living in an experiment which is something else they discuss on a regular basis and adds to the uncanny feeling that I also enjoy.
Oh well, time to get back to work to the tones of Joey "Coco" Diaz yelling in my ear.
Talk to you tomorrow,
