/I think I finally figured out what I am doing with this site. Up until last night, I always saw this as a motivational tool to keep me writing while I transitioned out of my dream of becoming a working screenwriter into a new dream of write for a whole new medium. I still see it as a tool to find my voice while sharing my work publicly in an attempt to also find an audience but I never really had an end game.
My plan up until last night was to write and publish content daily until I felt confident enough to start pitching non-script writing assignments to sites that might offer pay while keeping this site to show my journey from rock bottom to hopefully being at least successful enough to satisfy my minimalistic needs.
Last year, I took a break from the challenges but still did my daily updates. At that time I went from getting about hundred clicks daily to being lucky if I could get ten views in one day. Granted, neither of these numbers are all that impressive but since I see this as a training site I do very little to promote it.
Since I started this SNL challenge, I see my numbers are starting to grow again. Hopefully, by the time I get to reviewing all 42 seasons (probably 46 seasons by the time I get to the end,) I might have an actual core audience that would follow me into my next challenge. This would be a nice, slow, and organic way to get people used to my writing which would play perfectly into my latest plan.
This new plan would be to stick to the original idea that it takes ten years to become an overnight success, only now instead of just putting in the ten years and seeing what happens, I now know what I plan to be my legitimate first step to attempt to turn this site from being a practice piece to being more of a professional outlet.
Okay, so now it's time to get to the plan. Hopefully, six years from now this site will become ten years old. At least three and a half of those six years will be devoted to this Saturday Night Live Challenge which should bring in at least a couple reoccurring fans. After I catch up to SNL to where I'm back to only having to watch it once a week, that will free up some time for some new challenges that will hopefully build a fan base.
Once the decade of practice is over, I then plan to roll out all of my fictional work, self-publishing it all through this site. I figure by then, I might get a handful of people who have grown used to my online presence enough that they'd like my fictional voice as well.
Whether or not this strategy ever makes me a dime, I plan on sticking to it until the end because it's the only thing that I can think of to save the decades of content I have and save myself from just writing for the wind.
Now it's time to get to work to keep this plan alive.
Talk to you tomorrow with more updates.
Sincerely,
The Wicker Breaker
