WARNING: This week, I've been attempting to write about more than just what I did yesterday and though I don't think this is the best of my efforts, this is what I managed to come up with. I feel that the seed of my actual thought is here but I can't help but feel that it is missing something to where it's not as clear as I want so I figured I'd post it with this opening note because I don't have the time to scrap this post and start over.

Over the past couple of days, I've mentioned December 21, 2012, and the upcoming dooms day fears that have been popping up over the upcoming eclipse. First, I want to make sure to clear up any contradictions between the two post that don't match up being that the main point of my 2012 post was how we've gone haywire due to the fact that there is no longer a major predicted end point to keep the apocalypse promised masses a place to focus all their fears, only to highlight this modern day fear of a heavenly event that's mystery was solved way before any of us were born.

I think I forgot to point out that there still has been dozens of last day prophecies since the Mayan's failure to end it all. My point was that this Mayan date was the last major guess with a rich history to give legs to the mythology and building fear as the forecasted final countdown continued to tick. Instead, these new end of days promises start to appear after the fact as they piggyback natural events that become popular through social media.

Either way, I like to follow it all. For one, as I've pointed out in the past, due to a weekend of free HBO when I was somewhere between eight and ten, where a docudrama called The Man Who Saw Tomorrow about Nostradamus led me to have a fear-based fascination about prophecy in general.

This fear-based fascination eventually evolved to my interest in keeping an eye on the occult. Though I stopped believing that any of these predictions were actually true and started to see the manipulative qualities of this form of belief and eventually started to see religion in general in the same light where time plus primitive fears equals that ability to control which led me to be more interested in how people use these old belief systems as a tool rather than buying into the bullshit being sold.

This means whenever there is an upcoming mystic event that starts to build in steam I keep an eye on it, not because I feel like things that are going to go down as promised but because I always expect some maniac to piggyback off the prophecy to commit something crazy inspired by the promised outcome without actually fulfilling it to the word.

Take the Heaven's Gate cult for example. I don't believe that there was actually a spaceship following the Hale-Bopp comet but I do believe that they truly believed enough to end their lives in Nikes in order for their spirits to catch a flight. In this case, I'm fascinated because of how the traditionally religious people I know will call this crazy while I don't see the difference, other than the fact that these holy space cadets actually committed to their convictions.

This is just an example of a fringe group doing something extreme for their belief, which happens from time to time, that end up in the spotlight but I do believe that there are always more subtle storylines that steer the narrative of mankind that are way more manipulative and misleading while also hiding the ancient inspiration.

This is why I like to keep aware of all the weird stuff that is going on in this world even if I think it is total bullshit, not because I feel that it's even potentially true but because I feel that manipulation through beliefs is a major tool to keep the primitive part of us inline while the powers that be continue to take over.

Alright, as I said in the not above, I'm not sure if I nailed this post but it's the start of a thought that I might actually build on in future post if I decide to continue down this path.

We'll see what happens and as always, I'll check in tomorrow with what does.

Sincerely,

The Wicker Breaker
