Resolution #278: Write A One-Act Play...

Resolution #278: Write A One-Act Play...

Date: 10-5-2014

Due Date: 10-5-2015

The Resolution: I was raised by television. If I wasn't watching TV I was at the movie theater. The theater was my babysitter and TV was dad, for it taught me everything I know today.

When I was in High School I signed up for a stagecraft class because it was the closest thing to making movies that my school had to offer.

At the time I just wanted to be a part of the crew. I never had any interest in acting or directing and thought I was too dumb to be a writer.

It felt good taking any part in bringing a story to life.

While in school I did enjoy writing essays that technically fulfilled the assignment but I always felt the need to add a surreal touch to my work. The fact that the teachers didn't enjoy my approach led me to believe I was no good.

It wasn't until I was 21 that I started to enjoy writing and actually thought I was kind of good.

I bought Final Draft 4 and a copy of the Chasing Amy screenplay. That was my school for the first ten years of my writing career until I earned a scholarship to attend the Vancouver Film School.

Throughout my life… I've written songs, poems, essays, screenplays, short scripts, short stories, and even a novel with a graphic novel acting as an intermission of sorts.

The only thing that I've never attempted to write is a stage play.

And that's why we are here today.

By this time next year… I plan to have at least one one-act play written and will hopefully be in the process of putting it on somewhere.

We'll see what happens!!!

Resolution #280: Practice The Art Of Throwing Cards Into A Hat...

Date: 10-7-2014

Due Date: 10-7-2015

The Resolution: Back before there was any such thing as the internet, people had to resort to strange parlor tricks to kill time. It seemed that every romantic comedy or sit-com would have a scene of a guy throwing cards into a hat as a way to cope with the turning point in the story where a relationship seems to be unsalvageable.

I tried it a couple of times as a kid and remember it being fun but I never managed to work it in as a neurotic quirk.

This year I'm going to work on changing that by attempting to be able to throw all 52 playing cards into a hat that's at least six feet away from where I’m throwing.

Date: 10-8-2014

Due Date: 10-8-2015

The Resolution: I've got an idea for a resolution that I want to attempt and share but am not fully sure if I want it anchored to this site. Therefore I'll be taking on this resolution on the secret world of Snapchat.

I don't really know how Snapchat works but you can find me @WickerBreaker or however they differentiate their users on that app.

Track me down and I will start the underground resolution sometime within the next week.

Resolution #282: Attempt To Get Into As Many Last Will And Testaments As I Can...

Date: 10-9-2014

Due Date: 10-9-2015

The Resolution: I've never been in a will. I've had three grandparents die and have ended up with some of their stuff but it's not the stuff that matters to me. It would have felt nice to get some of the acknowledgment I sought while they were alive by being mentioned in their final plans.

Now it's time to seek that acknowledgment from strangers as I attempt to get into as many Last Will and Testaments as I can.

Hopefully… I’ll help just the right homeless person who is an undercover millionaire that rewards me for my act of kindness, but I don't see that scenario playing out especially if it requires me to perform an act of kindness.

I'm not fully sure how I'm going to accomplish this goal but there will be begging, bartering, or bamboozling involved. I'm willing to accept everything from nick-nacks to retirement plans, heirlooms to old brooms anything.

I just want to be mentioned in Wills.

I doubt I'll get anything but damn it, I'm going to try.

Resolution #284: Buy a Riley Martin Symbol To Get Tattooed On My Foot...

Date: 10-11-2014

Due Date: 10-11-2015

The Resolution: As I've pointed out in other posts I've been a Howard Stern fan for over half my life now. I'm a fan of the show not because of the porn stars, strippers, or celebrity interviews; I'm a fan of how Howard gives everyone a voice.

He has a magical way of talking to anyone in a way that’s fun while genuinely exploring what makes a person tick.

One of my favorite Wack Pack guests is Riley Martin "friend of the aliens." I remember over a decade ago when he first appeared on the air as a caller. He had a fun crazy story about The Coming of Tan, the leader of an alien group on their way to Earth to save the few people who own these symbols created by Mr. Martin.

Whether or not there is any truth to Riley's tales he creates such a vivid world, going into every minute detail of this plan of Tan the Biaviian.

Years went by and Riley seemed to disappear. Then I started seeing him pop up on daytime talk shows like Jerry Springer and I was introduced to Coast to Coast AM where he would pop up from time to time.

He didn't have his own show on Sirius yet so it was exciting to see a Wack Packer showing up on non-Stern programming selling the same story. It’s like seeing a fictional character who’s escaped from his own show to then randomly appear on other programs.

I've always wanted to buy a symbol as a goof but with the way the world seems to be heading, it seems I may end up having to use this symbol in the near future.

Resolution #285: Pay A Friend To Take A Course To Become My Certified Life Coach!!!

Date: 10-12-2014

Due Date: 10-13-2015

The Resolution: I've always been interested in the idea of having a life coach but I've also feared the personality type of a person who would go into life coaching. I don't feel comfortable around people who are always optimistic with high energy and who speak in bumper stickers.

I've tried getting around this by asking a friend to be my life coach but neither of us knew what we were doing which led to no follow-through. These life coaching sessions usually turned out to be nothing more than two friends hanging out talking about a few somewhat more important topics than usual.

I want to give Life Coaching another shot, again with someone I already know, not necessarily a best friend but someone I already feel somewhat comfortable with. I will pay for the online course to get them certified as a life coach. This way at least someone will have an idea of how life coaching works (Note: It's a $65 dollar coarse so I'm not sure what this certification will get you.)

Once this person is done with the course we'll figure out a schedule to either meet up in person or get together online for our coaching session.

Date: 10-13-2014

Due Date: 10-13-2015

The Resolution: Over the past couple of weeks… I've been assembling my very own 3D Printer. Last night I realized that whittling was the original 3D Printing. I started to wonder if whittling would give me any insights on 3D design.

So I decided I'll give it a shot.

Plus it seems like another relaxing hobby to get into.

Resolution #288: Start Squattying When I'm Pottying!!!

Date: 10-15-2014

Due Date: 10-15-2015

The Resolution: This is another Howard Stern based poo resolution.

I first heard about the Squatty Potty about a year ago when Howard Stern was waxing poetic about his latest bathroom purchase. I remember wanting to try it at the time, but then the thought kind of disappeared.

A couple of months ago a non-Stern fan friend announced to Facebook that they bought a Squatty Potty and found that they love it. I wanted to make that my resolution the very next day but didn't want to steal her thunder.

Now that I'm expecting a free package of Shittens I figure I may as well change my entire doodie repertoire and start squattying on the potty.

As always I'll keep you posted.

Resolution #289: Come Up With A Pen Name... To Ghostwrite My Own Work...

Date: 10-16-2014

Due Date: 10-16-2015

The Resolution: Since the stories that were written by me… as Matt Bunker… interlock to create one giant tale… I have a hard time promoting the individual pieces of the puzzle. I often get ideas for more traditional stories or articles that don't fit into the style of writing I want to be known for.

So my dilemma is, I have a bunch of work that I don't quite have the confidence or marketing skills to promote and a bunch of ideas that I don't want to write because I don't want my name attached to them.

The solution: Come up with a pen name to write and promote these mainstream ideas to practice the business side of writing… using stories that I don't have as strong of a connection to.

Resolution #290: Train To Become A Competitive Air Drummer...

Date: 10-17-2014

Due Date: 10-17-2015

The Resolution: Lately I've been thinking of movies to add to my personal list of the top 100 movies of all time as part of Resolution #216. Today the movie Adventures of Power came to mind.

This has to be one of the best movies about air-drumming that I've ever seen, possibly because it's the only movie about air-drumming that I've ever seen. Either way, I like this movie enough that it's going to make my top 100 list.

As I was fondly thinking about Adventures of Power I started to wonder if I have what it takes to be a competitive air drummer...

And here we are today.

Resolution #291: Buy And Beat Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks To See My Old Testing Team!!!

Date: 10-18-2014

Due Date: 10-18-2015

The Resolution: As I've pointed out in other video game resolutions, I’m in no way a gamer of any kind. I gave up on video games after Super Nintendo. The controls just became too complex for my dyslexic head to deal with.

It's bad enough I have to grab at an invisible air pen to tell the difference between right and left let alone figure out A, B, X, Y, R, R1, L, L1, etc. (I just listed eight buttons and that's not even all of them.)

The first job I got after graduating film school was as a video game tester for Midway's new Mortal Kombat game Shaolin Monks. Even though I'm not a real fan of video games, I am a fan of novelty and boy howdy is playing video games for a living as an adult is pretty surreal.

I worked on the game for about six months playing the game from eight to twelve hours a day. One night we even played for twenty-four hours straight. They bought pizza and turned it into a real slumber party type of atmosphere.

By the end of the six months, I could beat the entire game, unlocking every secret blindfolded and drunk.

That was close to ten years ago and I haven't played Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks since

Today I noticed that sell Mortal Kombat toys in my store which led me to wonder if I still have this video game locked down.

Wait did I just say this was close to ten years ago?

Resolution #292: Develop A Signature Chip Flavor To Enter Into Lay's Chip Flavor Contest!!!

Date: 10-19-2014

Due Date: 10-19-2015

The Resolution: It seems that consumer flavoring chip contests are the way of the snack food's future. I like to think of myself as an outside-of-the-box idea-man. Today when I saw that Doritos is now making a Spicy Street Taco flavored chip, I knew at that moment I need to get in on this chip flavoring racket.

Why stop at the Street Taco? Why not have a chip that tastes like a Tijuana bacon water dog? How about a duck flavored Cheetos, shoved into a chicken-flavored Bugle, then stuffed all that into a turkey flavored Combo? Or falafel flavored chips?

I don't know what the answer is, but I'm going to get to work on my recipe to someday enter into a chip flavoring contest once I feel it's just right.

Resolution #293: Learn To Appreciate Nature...

Resolution #293: Learn To Appreciate Nature...

Date: 10-20-2014

Due Date: 10-20-2015

The Resolution: Actually I already appreciate nature. I've probably seen more nature documentaries this year than I've seen any kind of scripted cinema. The problem is I have a touch of agoraphobia and hate everything about venturing out to see the beauty with my own two eyes.

In a creative writing class in film school… our assignment was to take ourselves out on a date. Unfortunately… my goto of grabbing some wine to stay in and watch movies didn't count as a date for this assignment but I was living in a different country and even though I didn't want to, I felt the need to go out and explore.

My school was in Vancouver B.C. where they have Stanley Park. I thought to myself, "Hey I should go out and explore the park. That's a thing to do on a date, right?

The day of the date arrived and I started to get anxious, what if I were to stand myself up?

Actually… I started to get anxious because I saw no goals in going to the park. How was I to know when my appreciation was done?

Then I saw that there was an aquarium.

"Oh, I'll go there."

I now had a plan. Go to the aquarium and be done once I've seen all the exhibits.

I grew up in San Diego where they have Sea World; though I wasn't really expecting a comparable experience I wasn't expecting the place to be that small.

They had an otter pool and a whale pool. I watched a large gross otter perform auto-fellatio and the lamest whale show on the planet then walked into the actual aquarium where it took less than a half-hour to see everything they had.

This was going to be a short date.

I got bored and bummed out because I wasn't even a good date for myself. I started to walk home with my tail between my legs. I decided to walk through the park to appreciate more nature… but still didn't know what to do once I saw something beautiful.

That is until I saw the sign for a cafe located in the middle of the park.

"I know, I'll have lunch," I said to myself, now having a goal to accomplish.

I stormed right over to the cafe, nature be damned.

I had my snack and went home.

I didn't end up appreciated anything and found that I'm a horrible date.

Maybe if I work on my appreciation of nature, I'll also become a better date.

Or at least I'll find a new place to get a snack.

Resolution #294: Plan A Theater 11 Reunion To Take Place One Year From Today...

Date: 10-21-2014

Due Date: 10-21-2015.

The Resolution: This year was my 20th high school reunion. I opted not to go because I don't really have strong bonds with my old high school buddies.

Don't get me wrong, these were great people but I only hung out with them at school. I was afraid of drugs and alcohol because of the alcoholism I witnessed growing up. I also lived too far away from everyone to just drop by. Hanging out outside of school involved too much planning and mooching of rides.

So I had a lonely existence at home and had fun hanging out at school.

Years later I decided to move to Seattle as a way of escaping the feeling that I now had a car, I was down to party, but all my old friends seemed to have moved on.

When I first got to Seattle I stopped at the first crappy motel I could find, The Thunder Bird on Aurora Ave, which I later found out was a rather scary street filled with hookers and drug dealers.

I didn't have any problems but I needed a non-motel abode. I also had a job at Amazon.com and Metro Cinemas. I got a room for rent near the theater and eventually moved into an actual apartment with one of my movie theater friends.

We got evicted because of our house warming part.

The person who pretty much caused the chaos to get us evicted quickly became my best friend. He also lived in an apartment and had plans to move into an actual house. He offered me a spot in the future house but I had to couch surf for a month until we were allowed to move in.

There's the back story.

Over the next three years… our house in Wedgewood became party central for everyone who worked in the theater. It was such a great group. We never locked the door so people could come over whenever they wanted. I'd come home from work some days to a living room full of people and zero roommates in sight.

I was completely fine with this. Everyone seemed to respect the house. Nothing was ever stolen that I know of. Though there were arguments I don't remember anything ramping up to the point of physical violence, unless you count the sparing in the front yard and general roughhousing…

This house is where I learned all of those things that I was supposed to learn why in high school and just like high school once we moved out there were a few of us that continued to hang out and everyone else seemed to go their own way.

Next year will mark 15 years since we moved out of the Wedgewood House.

And I think it's time for a reunion.

Planning will take place on our private Theater 11 Facebook page.

If you were part of Theater 11 contact either me or Tessa and we'll invite you in on the group and planning.

I can't wait to see everyone again.

Resolution #295: Bone Up On Perth, Australia...

Date: 10-22-2014

Due Date: 10-22-2014

The Resolution: I don't know why but ever since I can remember Perth, Australia’s been the only place on the planet I really want to visit outside of North America. Though I wish this resolution was to visit Perth within a year, I don't think I'll have the finances to complete all of my As Seen on TV resolutions, let alone pay for a major vacation.

Who knows?

Maybe the information I learn will come in handy for my 2016 Wicker Breaker Challenge, not that I have anything in mind but I definitely want to visit Perth before I die.

Until then I will study maps, watch documentaries, read traveler’s guide and other books on Perth, find a penpal from Perth, try Vegemite, etc... One year from now to showcase my findings I will post a school report of my findings and challenge my penpal/s to who can score higher on the Australian Citizenship test.

Resolution #296: Track Down Gigantic Knitting Needles To Knit My Own Blanket!!!

Date: 10-23-2014

Due Date: 10-23-2015

The Resolution: One of my favorite things that I've learned to do, as part of this resolution deal, is how to knit. As I sat down to come up with today's resolution I started to think how the deadline for the resolution to knit Doug the Trunk Penguin a sweater is quickly approaching.

Well, over two months from now, which is shockingly both the near future and the distant future at the same time.

Anyways, with knitting on my mind, I thought back to a video I saw on the YouTube of a woman knitting a blanket with two giant homemade PVC knitting needles. At first, I was going to go the PVC route but then I decided that I wanted to track down the real deal giant knitting needles to have as a keepsake of this experiment.

Once I track down these needles I will knit a blanket for my eventual apartment make-over.

Resolution #297: Figure Out Something Cool To Do With This Crayola Thingamajig!!!

Date: 10-24-2014

Due Date: 10-24-2015

The Resolution: Today at work, while unpacking Christmas merchandise I walked into the stock room to see a cart full of these Crayola Light Designers. I was so intrigued that I didn't hear my coworker’s directions as to where they're supposed to go. He was a couple of sentences into the instructions when we both realized I wasn't paying attention at all.

I don't know what I'm going to do with it but I know that the animation feature of this toy will come into play.
