Dateline 5-5-2017

I think I'm just going to consider this week a wash. That's not to say that it was a bad week, I just haven't been able to get to everything that I wanted to within the time frame that I worked out in my head. That's okay though because part of the reason for the delays is that I've been spending more time with my nephew since I barely saw him at all last week due to jury duty.

I am so close to getting caught up to where I was before Jury Duty. I should get there by the end of the day today or the end of tomorrow at the latest. Once I do get caught up, I'm going to need to get back to the job hunt as the last opportunity that I was told that I had if I were able to pass a prescreening test seems to have disappeared into the ether.

Damn, it's taking me longer to fall back into my routine than I expected. Keep in mind this is due to a change in my schedule that only lasted a week. I thought for sure that my first day back to being in full control of my schedule that I would hit the ground running and knock out all the tasks that have been piling up.

Damn it, I was fully expecting to be well rested today but due to a combination of staying up late to celebrate the end of my run of jury duty and the fact that I now wake up at the same time every morning no matter when I fall asleep, I had to Frankenstein my morning just to fit in four and a half hours of sleep after first waking with only two hours under my belt.

Alright, just got home from my final day of jury duty and now it is time to decompress from being around so many strangers for the first time in about two years. Don't worry, I'll share what we decided as a jury when I check in tomorrow with the details that I can now share since the case is over.

Several years ago, a friend of mine who was raised in Guam and I were working on a film that took place in a classroom. During one of our breaks, he told me that he found it interesting how he was raised with the world map as the focal point of the classroom while American children spend their developmental years staring at a map of the United State.

Oh, it feels so good to have nothing other than my blog stuff to do today. Granted, I am fully aware that most people are in the rat race and have to live by someone else's scheduling on a daily basis but that is their trade-off turn earn the living they require to meet the standard of living they want to live up to.

What a difference a solid night's sleep makes. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to get released from jury duty early. This allowed me to rush home and finish all of my self-imposed blogging obligation early enough to relax without worrying about it for the last few hours of my day.

Boy howdy am I exhausted today. I don't know what it is about having to wake up to an alarm clock that turns me into an instant alcoholic. Since I am so out of practice drinking in general, I now find it twice as hard to drink and get through the next day.

Today was my second day of jury duty and now that I'm an official juror I'm going to hold off on talking about anything thing to do with my experience whether it has to do with the case or not to play it safe until the case is over. All I'm going to say about today is that mornings still suck, people take weird notes, and of course, I ended up on the case that's run long both the days to where it feel like a ghost town when we're finally released.

(Note: This update that I am about to write has nothing to do with the specific of the court case I might be assigned to, as I don't even know the details yet. I'm just discussing the jury selection process because this is what happened to me today. If/when I get selected, I don't plan to give case specific info at all because I'm more interested in the behind the scenes workings than the actual case.)

Alright, tomorrow is my first day of jury duty, an obligation that has been festering in the back of my mind as I now dread any scheduling that is out of my hands since switching to a freelance/work from home lifestyle where I actually have control over what and when I want to do things.

Holy crap, I just remembered that I have to check in for jury duty on Tuesday, which means I really have to get ahead on my SNL reviews because there's potential that I'll be losing the entire day.

Once again, yesterday I got caught up in the same circumstances to where I couldn't stick to my plan to fit in two viewing of SNL in one day. I really hope that no one who reads this takes any of my schedule griping as a "Woe is me" type of complaint.  That's not to say that this blog isn't completely void of "woe" because every once in a while I'll fall into a rut and have nothing on my mind other than how shitty my life is.

My schedule has been so out of whack this week that it's starting to drive me crazy. It all started about a month ago when I sleep went to shit out of the blue and I've been struggling to get back to the solid slumber that I managed to pull off for the first quarter of this year.

Alright, I'm awake, have a bit of energy from getting a forced full night's sleep and it's early enough that I'm not panicked as to whether or not I can fit in all the things I need to do by the end of the day. Where I meant to write this yesterday but opted to wait because of a late start to the day, here's how my pork loin test went down...

Oh my god, I am so exhausted today. I think it will get better once I get some food in me and fully wake up but for now, I can barely think straight. It's been about a month since my quality of sleep has dropped into the dumps and the buildup of sleep deprivations is really beginning to affect me.

I'm kind of excited today for two reasons. One, I recently bought an Instant Pot and have spent the last two days experimenting with it by cooking Dollar Tree food and today I am going to move on and attempt to make my first full blown Instant Pot meal.

Once again, I wish I could figure out how to get paid anything to do what I do. As I continue to wait to move on with the hiring process for the latest job that has unofficially offered me a position, some of my stresses have eased. Sure I'm still stressed out about when I will actually start or whether or not it will fall through, but having this potential new permit job has allowed me to take a bit of a break from the worries that come with a job hunt.

It's crazy how much this last presidential election really messed me up. Not only did it turn me away from social media, my only means to keep tabs on the outside world, but it also got me to stop listening to my favorite talk show that up until this time last year, I hadn't missed an episode in over 20 years.
