I'm sort of excited to start day three of my involvement in this year's NaNoWriMo challenge. Being that I write these daily posts first thing in the morning, I've only gotten two days of novel writing under my belt and will get to today's effort later in the evening.

Last night I successfully kicked off day one of this year's NaNoWriMo which, if you don't know, is an annual self-paced challenge where the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. I completed this challenge once about four years ago by going completely over and adapted five of my feature-length screenplays into one epic opus with a 138,222 word-count that was 658 pages long.

Alright, it's deadline day!!! Thanks to all the hard work that I put in over the past couple of days I only have fourteen pages to go which is an easy goal to achieve. I set this deadline mainly to have a clean plate to start this year's NaNoWriMo which officially starts tomorrow, so it won't be all that horrible if I don't manage to pull this off, it's just nice to meet a goal.

Oh man, I really wish I could remember what I dreamed about last night. Even though I don't really like sharing dreams because of the whole, they're not interesting to anyone other than the person who dreamed them thing, when you write a daily post, sometimes you have to take what you can get when it's there.

In yesterday's post, I mentioned that I might actively attempt to put an extra effort into completing the current draft of my novel by the first of the month in order to compete in this year's NaNoWriMo challenge. Part of me wants to participate because it's been a long time since I've written anything from scratch but I also want to give myself a break from this current story before I give it a read and take notes for one more polishing draft to publically share by New Year's Day.

Holy-moly that was a lot of sleep. As I mentioned yesterday, I didn't sleep all that well the night before because I ran out of my "meds." Well, yesterday afternoon I replenished my stash and boy howdy, does it make a difference. Not only did I go to bed nice and early, the sleep was so solid that I don't even remember waking to turn at any point in the night.

Last night I got a reminder of just how shitty insomnia can be, especially when it hits with full force. Though I constantly battle with the disorder on a daily basis, last night was particularly rough because it was the first time that I've run out of weed for the first time in close to a year. Luckily, I have the ability to place an order today because I don't think I could handle this slumber fight on a daily basis.

It's JFK Files Release Eve!!! I never really felt that I had a guilty pleasure when it comes to music, movies, or TV, in fact, I'm more likely to brag about my bad taste over chiming in to discuss the latest mainstream hits. Though I wouldn't say that I share all of my quirky interested with pride, for the most part, it's rare that I would feel guilt over something that keeps me entertained.

Well, I woke early today yet here I sit hours later having accomplished nothing. Part of the problem is that I woke to find that today is the day to run all the maintenance software required to get my computer up to speed. This takes a couple of hours so I could've written this post while said software ran in the background but due to past experiences, I don't trust that my computer won't randomly restart without warning causing me to lose all of my progress.

If you would have told me back in my screenwriting days that a time would come where I would actually enjoy writing early in the morning without getting to an AM time by staying up all night, I would have laughed you out of the room after punching you in the ear. Alright, maybe the ear hitting wouldn't happen as I've never been one to turn to violence. I'm also pretty sure the leaving of the room would be necessary but there definitely would be laughter involved.

As excited as I am to be back on the ball in my efforts to rewrite my novel, I can't wait to be done with this draft. As I said in past posts, this rewrite is taking extra-long because there is an illustration element to the story that I'm working on so I have to constantly jump back and forth between Word and Photoshop throughout the writing process.

I find it funny how my mom, uncles, and seemingly everyone from their generation constantly get surprised that I am aware of movies, music, and references from the influential years of their youth. Keep in mind, I'm forty-one years old, meaning that I experienced a world before cable television and was damn near twenty-one around the time that the internet started to be more commonplace amongst the general public.

It's amazing how a good season of Saturday Night Live will lighten my overall mood. That's not to say that the show is the controlling factor in my ever-shifting temperament but ever since I started this SNL challenge, my day starts a lot smoother during solid seasons of the show.

I'm so excited to be back in my normal groove following a week of being bed-ridden with a cold which directly followed a weekend where I wasn't able to work on my novel rewrite due to a family event. Yeah, I have been chipping away at this project, reworking a page or two a day if I had the energy or focus to accomplish any more than my daily obligations.

Another day, another struggle to come up with something to say. Last night I was thinking about how much I wish I could get around the inner censor in my head and just ramble about whatever the hell I want whether it be real issues that I'm struggling with, my thoughts on daily events, or just randomly musing on wild ideas like time travel, synthetic reality, and various other philosophies/thought experiments.

Alright, I think I am finally over this cold and even if there are a few straggling symptoms they are weak enough that I will easily be able to work through it. As I said yesterday, I'm actually fine with this round of sickness being that it forced me to take a genuine break as opposed to my usual efforts to take time off where I just go easy on myself for not getting as much work done as I would like.

Even though I didn't end up getting a single thing done, other than the bare minimum to meet my daily obligations, I'd consider this weekend of rest to be a much-needed break from my daily routine. That's always been my favorite thing about being sick, even when I was in school I loved it when I was genuinely ill because it gave me a legitimate excuse to do nothing but stay in bed and watch TV while my body recouped its lost energy.

It's amazing how long the day feels when you don't stay productive. I think yesterday was the high point of my bout with this latest cold. Between the sickness and meds, I was too out of it to focus on the matters at hand so I decided to take it easy as soon as I completed my daily obligations.
